Ruby hue with high saturation. Aromas and flavors of baking spice, blackberry, cherry, licorice, oak, strawberry, toast, and vanilla. Full body; heavy (but not overpowering) tannins; and medium-high acidity. Bold on the nose and smooth on the palate, with a long, engaging finish. Reminiscent of lines from a Robert Frost poem: "lovely, dark and deep". Incredible QPR. — 6 years ago
Oh my goodness, here is goodness itself. Such an accessible poem this wine. Forthcoming wild strawberry jam and bark and sweet smoke like incense. It's like when someone remembers the things you love, the things maybe you even forgot you loved, and tries, really tries, for you and their effort engulfs you and they don't see that consideration in themselves but it's so vivid in your eyes. — 9 years ago
LONGING FOR THE SOUTH
Yesterday I drank this very nice Macedonian semi-dry T'ga za Jug red wine.
The wine is made of the native grape variety Vranec. It has an intense red color, and the distinctive taste of raisins and raspberries, which make it a nice sweet treat (hence: semi-dry).
The wine is named after the poem ‘Taga za Yug’ of the Bulgarian poet Konstantin Miladinov (1830–1862), one of the Miladinov brothers, who originate from Ottoman Macedonia. Both brothers are thought to have laid the foundation of the Macedonian literary tradition.
‘Taga za Yug’ means ‘longing for the South’ (el anhelo por el Sur): "If I had an eagle's wings, I would rise and fly on them to our shores, to our own parts [...] Here are frost and snow and ashes, blizzards and harsh winds abound [...] There the sunrise warms the soul".
When it is cold outside, and fiercely raining, I can assure you that it makes you long for the sun that warms the soul. Drinking the T'ga za Jug wine in good company and nice surroundings makes for a wonderful or sometimes even better alternative.

The Sancerre Rosé delivered everything my lofty expectations dared hope for, and more! Laser focused, tinged with toe-curling earthiness, then it softly expanded its forest floor tentacles of savory flavors like a poem. I'd drink this all winter! — 11 years ago
Beautiful light peach with hints of baked almond, and apple. A poem on the palate!
Elegant brut, but with a subtle festive fruit. Best New Year’s toast ever!!! — 4 years ago
One of the first 2013s to really show through as I haven’t seen too many that aren’t overpowering at this point. If I could attach the clip of Rodney Dangerfield I’m Back to School where he recites the poem - he keeps saying “Yes”..... then that’s what I would’ve done here. Not that @Benoit Touquette would understand the reference anyway.... — 6 years ago

This Poem Cellars Cab Franc is superb. Wonderful floral notes. Complexity galore; very Cabernet in many ways. — 7 years ago

Great balance and great for a summer barbeque! — 9 years ago
iv. What is thy mouth to me? A cup of sorrowful incense, A tree of keen leaves, An eager high ship, A quiver of superb arrows. What is thy breast to me? A flower of new prayer, A poem of firm light, A well of cool birds, A drawn bow trembling. What is thy body to me? A theatre of perfect silence, A chariot of red speed; And O, the dim feet Of white-maned desires! — 11 years ago
Had fun with a “Judgement of Granite Bay” France vs. California challenge. Both ‘15s, both originally about the same price. The Bedrock was plush and luxurious on the palate while soft on the nose. Glorious to drink. The Graillott nose was like an epic poem about the inside of a French barn. Loved it. But the palate didn’t match. I could swirl and smell that Graillott forever.... and then following that with a sip of the Bedrock... managed the perfect wine! — 5 years ago
Vanilla, chocolate and oak flavors. This Cabernet is a poem, which can even whisper to your ears. — 6 years ago
This is outstanding liquid. We were given the bottle around our wedding along with a poem and told to consume it for our first anniversary. Well, we're three years married and just getting to it now... At a hotel... Before a Drake concert... Anyway, the wine has all kinds of complexity. Blueberry and black plum dominate for me with cedar or new oak flavors also dancing throughout. Really well done. — 8 years ago

Surprisingly light, flowery. Beautiful color in the class. Like a poem. — 11 years ago

Officially winter here and I immediately wanted to enjoy a bigger wine. It’s funny how the temperature outside can easily influence my wine choices. First time trying this one.
Mending Wall is a collaborative effort between three families that includes winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, Outpost Winery (Frank Dotzler) and Pulido-Walker (Mark Pulido & Donna Walker). It is located on the edge of St. Helena, at the foothills of Howell Mountain. The name comes from a Robert Frost poem. There is a line in the poem ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’
The 2017 is approachable now. Big, yet soft Cab. No need in waiting years, enjoy now with a short decant. Worth mentioning that it had a lot of sediment for a relatively young wine.
Shorter days, colder nights, bigger wines. Happy weekend.
