One of the best. Sidra-style perry made in NY, but not faddish at all. John Reynolds, one of my favorite iconoclastic wine/cider-makers, has been doing it this way for decades. Micro production. Loads of VA but flat out delicious; vibrant, textured, rich and soulful. Do yourself a favor and find some of this if you like natural wine. I’d argue this kills almost any high-VA natural wine. Why? There’s a historical precedent for the style, the flavor profile makes sense, it’s clean and well-made. Great stuff. — 5 years ago
So enchanting! Orange blossoms and Petrol. — 7 years ago
Really enjoyed this. Excellent QPR — a year ago
Really great value in a straightforward, honest, balanced Grenache. It’s grown within the Faugeres appellation but can’t claim the AOC apparently because it’s from deep sandy soils and not schist. No matter! Rayas grows Grenache in sand so there’s great precedent! Nose shows sappy kirsch-y fruit, lots of savory, mineral notes, and a touch of vanilla and spice. Soft and light-footed in the mouth. Quite dry, savory, and saline. Very soft tannin. Alcohol is relatively low at a stated 13.5. Drinking well now, it will certainly last a year or two longer, though I don’t think it will improve. I love wines like this. So food flexible. — 2 years ago
Less tight than the precedent vintage. Wide nose of red berries; griottes mostly. Mouth opens with generous volume and gains in definition fast. Fresh retro, long after taste #bestofgivry — 7 years ago
Perfect wine for a cold evening in front of a roaring fire. Quite complex throughout with a clean ruby red color and layered aromas and flavor profiles. Starts with some pencil shavings and spice but eventually opens to a more fruit forward place with red berries taking precedent. Pomegranate, cranberry, and raspberry with some strawberry too. All of them seem to come and go with each sip and savor. Good acidity provides nice structure with the tart berry flavors but medium to low tannins keeps it pretty fresh and young. — a year ago
Great zin, light on its feet with dark fruits — 5 years ago
Very enjoyable. Almost to the tee what I would expect for an elegant Zin. Macerated fruit, warm spice, solid tannic structure. Love those old vines. Not overly jammy either. Would love to try an older vintage just to see how it would mature. Had it with plain old cheese, wafer crisps and grapes. Lovely — 7 years ago
As good as the precedent vintage. Still a favorite. — 8 years ago
Pinotman /// Andreas
Planted in 1964, on deep granitic sand, and some on the darker clay loam that’s weathered from limestone. Dry farmed!!!!, head trained, and organic. Riesling roots can go down up to 60 feet. So these vines get their 💦. Dry, 13.5%. Aged in foudre for 10 months. A heirloom. Almost no diesel aka kerosene. Plenty of acid. Jasmine. Not my cup of tea but interesting. — 13 days ago
