2008 Roda I Tempranillo. Lunch at RW. Drank alongside the '89 Solaia. This wine was excellent. Decanted before serving- abt 30 min before pouring. It's def a big wine, but not too tannic or acidic. A very nice Crémant with fine, tiny, persistent bubbles, and a rounded mouthfeel. Brut nature yet not austere and highly drinkable.

3L Chateau de Beaucastel Hommage a Jacques Perrin Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rhone. Bday lunch at RW. Perfect. Not too sweet, balanced sweetness which grew with time in the decanter. Magnum 1999 Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia Masseto Merlot. Lunch at RW w S&L DiM and P&S Co. Drank after the '78 Heitz Martha's out of magnum. This wine was much, much bigger, as we expected and drank beautifully. Hard to say which we enjoyed more. Awesome. — 10 years ago
1999 Case Basse di Gianfranco Solera Riserva Brunello. Drank at RW w group during staycation, after the '96 Giacosa Brunello. This wine was intense and big; complex and a total contrast to the leanness of the previous wine. Many more earthy notes than fruit (as had thought previously)- damp forest floor, green veg, leather, spices- along with some dark fruit we had trouble nailing down. 1998 Antinori Solaia Super Tuscan. Lunch at RW. Drank alongside the '08 Rhoda I Tempranillo. Very different. This wine was excellent with pizza and drinking alone. Beautiful, softly layered wine. — 9 years ago
Magnum 1999 Harlan Estate. Welcome dinner for D fam at RW. Drank this after the '96 Araujo Eisele out of magnum. Unfortunately, this bottle was not stored properly and just didn't drink great. Unanimous that Araujo hit it out of the park and that this wine was not what it should have been. It was hot, lacked dimension, and the finish was abrupt and harsh. It should have been great, as we have been enjoying other '99s at this time, but not this bottle. — 10 years ago
1996 Bruno Giacosa Riserva Asili di Barbaresco. Dinner at RW during staycation. Interesting nose- graphite and pencil shavings and sour fruit. A little lean and not as big as in the past. Drank this before the '99 Soldera and glad we did. Totally enjoyed this wine. — 10 years ago
