Derby Wine Estates ‘Project España Red Blend’ 2015: Full-bodied. Nice balance. Exceptional acidity. Notes of black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, oak & earth. Gentle, medium-long finish. Consisting of 57% Tempranillo, 17% Carignane, 14% Grenache & 12% Graciano, this Paso-made, Spanish red blend was rich & jammy with dark fruit brilliance; complex, multi-layered, well-structured. Opened 1 hour prior and it really made a big difference in how the wine drank. All in all, this is a great juice! Wishing everyone a fantastic week! Cheers🍷 — 4 years ago
Surprised by how smooth it is and how you can really taste the different grape varieties. Earthy, dark cherry, plum, and mushroom. Almost purple in color. — 6 years ago
Crispy tang with enough complexity that it makes you feel like you’re getting away with something. Sounds like a Japanese pop group. — 7 years ago
A group of guys decided to meet up at our Wine Storage facility and bust out some unique bottles! Scores and notes to follow!
This pushed for WOTN. Alban has been a source for SQN among other big Napa Valley names. Best Syrah I've had to date HANDS DOWN. Goodness. This wine epitomized harmonious. Blue and blackberries, cedar, bacon, BBQ pit grease. Phenomenal. Thanks Joe! — 9 years ago
A nice light bodied, easy drinking red blend, low acidity, peppery at first with a long finish of blackberry jam. — 10 years ago
Thanksgiving bottle #1. Pinot noir in riper style. Strong notes of cranberry and strawberry; crushed flowers. Bright, spicy on palate. As it opens, an earthy note. Total hit with the group. — 3 years ago
Paired with a similarly aged Cote Rotie and poured in a blind tasting at my home to a group of interested wine drinkers.
This showed a more generous, fleshy expression of the grape as expected and still had a finely chiseled structure of finely textured tannins that echo a dryness of the vineyard's limestone soils.
Very good new world Syrah. — 4 years ago
This is quite a special wine. I don’t care what the others rated this. I like it. Purchased on my trip to Santa Barbara almost 6 years ago. Now I remember why I bought it at the tasting room. Nice floral bouquet, slightly acidic, light translucent color with less than 13 percent alcohol (that’s a good thing). Very good structure that would suggest this wine is in the middle innings and can probably last a few more years — 5 years ago
All I can say is wow! This is a beautiful wine. It is integrated in complex and rewarding ways and a real revelation on the still latent stratospheric possibilities of Paso. I am certain that I will not be able to properly describe the magic here. This project of Justin Smith (Saxum), Philippe Cambie and Sasha Verhage is something very special. The flavors build and last forever. I found myself not wanting it to end. Grab this if you can get your hands on it. Simply spectacular. — 6 years ago
Paso Wine #1. Didn’t intend last week to become Paso Week, but opened this bottle after buying tickets for the Hospice du Rhone event in Paso in April. Youngest, darkest of the three. Highly concentrated and prob with the most potential of the group, but not giving up much at the moment. Needs more time and more air. Hid its 16% ABV pretty well, so don’t let it sneak up on you. — 9 years ago
Valley Project/Kunin take on a Châteauneuf de Pape, which is a Cru (a named terroir, highest rank in the Cotes de Rhône region - AOC, villages AOC, named villages AOC and terroir). North grows more Syrah and south grows more Grenache, Pape is in the south in France. Cites de Rhône region known for GSM blends (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre). Chateanauf de pape also has white blends. — 3 years ago

Gordons Čhanin tasting 6/13/17. $43. #1. Nose of white flowers and tropical fruits with mineral notes. Palate that's textured and with tension mouth feel and weight. Long finish with acids and minerals. Saline type minerals. Full melo unfiltered. Sulfur minimal and only after melo. Richest wine in lineup. Best nose of the group. Though not quite as full of tension. — 9 years ago
On a trip to CA, tried 10 AuBonClimat wines. Jim Clendenen, owner of ABC in 2000, created his own label to explore making unique wines from his Le Bon Climat vineyard, later expanded the project to include fruit from other historic Santa Barbara County sites. Jim named this wine "The Pip" in homage to his Border Collie, former winery mascot. Aromas of stone and tropical fruits. Apple and pear flavors with lemon zest and a touch of vanilla oak. Well balanced and Crisp on the finish ending with mineral tones. — 10 years ago

Wes Hagen, 20 year veteran wine maker at Clos Pepe Vineyard, joined our group and gave us a master class in Santa Barbara pinot noir. We tried 11 PNs from 2004-2010, made by Loring, AP Vin, Sandler, Siduri, and Brewer-Clifton. This was my favorite as well as the group’s #1. — 2 years ago
