Alsace Pinot Noir 2019

Just a perfect accompaniment to simply roasted chicken. Soft nose has bright cherry/red berry fruitiness, and a soft, beet-like earthiness, along with subtle cracked stones. In the mouth it’s soft and nearing maturity, with soft but adequate acids and a decent amount of soft tannin. The flavors have nicely-concentrated soft cherry fruit, and some nice stony minerality. Nice length for a basic Alsace AOC wine. I like this a lot. — 6 months ago

Alsatian Pinot Noir has become a thing these past 10 years or so!!

@Doug Powers - Yes. Global warming has helped a few wines in some cooler areas, this being one (along with Pinot Noir in Germany, Sancerre, and the Finger Lakes). Not to mention Cab Franc in the Loire now not routinely tasting like machine oil!

Eguisheim Alsace Pinot Noir 1550

There’s depth and “cut” to it that invites more comparisons to its Burgundy cousins than its German ones, so give it 30 minutes or so in a decanter before diving in: Serve it at a cool 60 degrees in Burgundy stems and you’ve got one of the most versatile reds for food one could possibly ask for. This will sing with a wide range of proteins, from salmon all the way up to beef, but I can’t resist an old-school Alsatian pairing—tarte flambée. Smoky bacon, creamy cheese, crisp crust…that’ll work for me! Enjoy! — 5 years ago

Good price point. Sweetness like a dry reisling. Nice fruity notes of pear and some citrus. Pale yellow with mild fruity and vanilla aromas — 7 years ago

Rare Grand Cru Eichberg Alsace Riesling 2011

Fascinating comparison with its Pfersigberg sibling from the same vintage. It’s a little more developed — fleshed out a bit with some luscious fruit flavours — but still young. Great wines. — 7 years ago

Floral bomb on the nose. Ripe apricot, honeysuckle, lavender, and minerals on the palate with a hint of petrol. Medium bodied, medium alcohol, medium acid, and medium plus finish. — 2 years ago

Beautiful golden color. Intense fruit on the nose followed by the same on the palate-lychee pear melon honey. Touch of sugar. A great Alsace Gewurtztraminer!! — 5 years ago

Sélection de Grains Nobles Alsace Pinot Gris 2007

Such intense sweetness, balanced by acid purity. It’s a touch above what I prefer, but it’s an impressive wine. Gorgeous complexity already, but still youthful and has an amazing future ahead of it. — 7 years ago

Beyer Ranch California Zinfandel 2021

This is a delicious wine. It has strong fruit on the nose, like blackberries and cherries, with a bit of spice and oak. When you taste it, there’s a nice mix of jammy red and black fruits, and you can pick up some vanilla and chocolate too. The wine feels smooth with just the right amount of acidity. — 2 years ago

This stuff is fantastic. Such a brilliant balance of piercing acidity and complex sweetness. Prominent lychee with soft rosewater beneath. It’s luscious but not at all cloying. One sip lingers endlessly on the palate. — 7 years ago
