A bit of rollercoaster ride…the aromatics throw you what looks like a fastball, however it’s a 2-seam splitter ;) still evaluating…. — 5 years ago
This reminds me of taking a picture that’s very special in the moment and later reviewing it to find that is just a touch out of focus… You still see everything but it’s just not as clear and sharp as you would like it. There were moments when this felt like a 90 point wine and then there were moments when it dipped Dash I think the winemaking is in a very good place, perhaps this is needed just a little more time on the vine or a little less intervention in the cellar. Was completely serviceable and yummy with house burgers, but just was a little disjointed to be in the elite level of mid-Atlantic PVs. Perhaps it just lacked that complex cities and voluptuousness that’s possible with this highly aromatic and texture of wine. I would like to taste their 15, which was a really good vintage in North Carolina. This particular offering spent 28 months in peril, which is a really long time to find itself - The terroir is promising :) — 7 years ago
Strong showing from a NC winery I was impressed with. others don't seem to rate it high but could be vintage. Purchased Nov 2017. Nice leather aromas with tobacco earthy raspberry taste. — 8 years ago
Spicy but not too dry — 9 years ago
This is a small town beauty pageant winner - rural North Carolina channeling the Right Bank... gorgeous brooding ripe almost stewed plum, blackberry & boysenberry mingled with dusty edges, spices, savory and a wild savage forestry-herbaceousness. Medium bodied w/firm tannins backbone - an absolute pleasure that absolutely over-delivers @ $17. .1 bump for locale & price point — 5 years ago
While the acid edge has dull a bit, this was full of life/flavor: lime & white grapefruit with a honeydew viscous body. The ‘17 is a 92pt version, tho! — 7 years ago
So good. 25% done in oak barrels really makes a nice balanced crisp wine — 8 years ago
Nice vibrant jammy red fruit, delicious! — 8 years ago
Wow. Really like the way the NC Merlot style comes out. Really nice wine. — 9 years ago
Very good dry white! — 9 years ago
In our binary world- this is a feminine format. Pinot weight and body with East Coast fruit expression. Nice aromatics couple with punchy acidic flow. The type of plummy acid that make the mouthfeel “float” with a grace more impactful than the actual fruit. Compelling, especially with the right cuisine ;) 1 bottle remains - target 2026? 91 pt because it’s NC and relatively weighted — 5 years ago
Nice NC wine... if you like Pinot Noir. Enjoyable. — 6 years ago
Delightfully crisp, watermelon notes — 7 years ago
What a fabulous food friendly wine made with time honored Italian techniques from Yadkin Valley soils!! At approximately $20 per, this Shirley has to be one of the best values in North Carolina. Texture and mouth feel rule this vibrant and dark fruit driven gem — 7 years ago
Need to drink it before this hot NC weather ends later this week — 8 years ago

Fantastic build is almost 9yrs old. Sangratino is the star here…the tannins have rounded, yet the acid and mid-palate weight is perfect. Dark chocolate and raspberry/sweet pomp delight. — 2 years ago
