Alessandro e Gian Natale Fantino
Monforte d'Alba Rosso dei Dardi Red Blend
Piedmont, Italy

This Nebbiolo blend comes from the famed Cascina Dardi parcel of the Bussia cru in Monforte d'Alba and it is simply an outrageous value. You won't find a more pure or elegant expression of Nebbiolo in such a declassified wine nor at such a modest price point. The Fantinos have overdelivered with this vintage that is bright and focused but not all lacking in depth and complexity. You won't ever mistake this wine for a Fantino Barolo, but it is a serious wine nonetheless- imbued with more than enough finesse, depth and balance to make the comparison seem rather absurd. As a retailer (and consumer, for that matter) I am always thrilled to discover such gems, but it almost pains me to think that fruit of this quality finds its way into such a humble bottling because it is a very fine effort deserving of recognition. Quite lovely and outstanding.

Oct 6th, 2019Quite good, dry Italian red. Perfect with food. But beware, bottles have lots of sediment.

Fresh and bright. Basic Italian food wine. Some berries and cherries. Plenty of acid. Friendly.

Would have been interesting if I could get pass the brett. Sigh. Nebb with carbonic maceration.
