Gold Cap (Bessards-Meal blend), purchased at Marche-aux-Vins in Ampuis in January, 2009, this shows lovely aromatics of iron, mineral, some floral as well, very tight, structured palate with mostly black fruit flavors, clean, balanced, very long finish, ideally needs more cellaring, but I think I only bought 1 so that’s not happening, great Syrah from Hermitage!!

Before I popped it I knew I should have waited at least another 5 years. Bloody meat, intensely dark, tannic fruit, and a slight hint of violets. Muscular and mineral-driven with a bitter chocolate finish. Tannins need more time to resolve.

Aug 27th, 2016Dark red/black cherry and blue fruit. Tarragon/liquorice floral character. Cracked black pepper. Whiff of Dr. Pepper. Smokey And smoked meatiness!! Ample but beautifully supple tannins. Complexity on the nose and palate. Medium length finish. Paired this with a bacon burger with cheese and caramelized onions. I want to live in my wine glass. Drank at Walnut Street Café in Philadelphia.
