Bodega Catena Zapata
Angelica Zapata Alta Cabernet Franc
Mendoza, Cuyo, Argentina

Deep purple in color with a reddish rim.
Nose of blueberries, black currants, cooked plums, light oak, dark chocolates, peppercorn, herbs, bell peppers, earth, tobacco leaf and black tea.
Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with plums, currants, light oak, vegetables, chocolates, tobacco, bell pepper, herbs and peppercorn.
Nice length on the finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a young Cabernet Franc from Mendoza. Rich and extracted with lots of earth and vegetable notes.
Needs 5 years in the bottle to mature, but already drinking nicely. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.
Complex and interesting enough to drink by itself. A good food wine too, that will pair nicely with lamb dishes.
100% Cabernet Franc grapes were aged for 18 months in (50% new) French Oak barrels.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
91 points.
$50.

Dark purple with near black core. Sweet blackberry, herbs, and light baseball bat on the inviting nose. Confirmed on the medium full palate with a hint of marzipan and medium plus acidity. Tannins are mild but present. Oak is present but mild. This food-friendly (I had with beef Wellington) red is an excellent example of why Cabernet of the Franc kind is rapidly gaining ground in the market. New World fruit but surrounded by Old World finesse and none of that SB-induced pyrazine to throw things off. Drink now through 2027.
