Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Pretty nose of black plums, currants, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, cola, light earth, black tea and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, spices, chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn and licorice.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a delicious 14 year old second wine from this Second Growth château. Fruit forward and elegant. Rich and expressive.
Although not from a great vintage, it is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to age nicely in the next few years. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.
Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Complex and interesting. Good by itself or with food.
A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Aged for 14 months in (15% new) French Oak barrels.

This is a second label from Gruaud LaRose (itself a second grand cru). Dark cherries, dark berries, blackcurrant, mixed with some herbiness and hints of eucalyptus/mint. Discernible earthiness, blended with medium tobacco and cigar box. It’s very smooth and well composed. The tannins are slightly harsh yet the finish drops off faster than I expected. This was paired with Fois gras, sea bass ravioli and medium rare rack of lamb. The fois gras accentuated the berry notes, while the succulent rack of lamb heightened the earthy tobacco notes.

Some dark fruit makes an appearance, but overall this is an earthy shroomy concoction.

Super young. Needed a 24 hour decant to really open up. Once there it was delicious. Hold for at least 5 years or eat now with a big decant and a monster steak.

May 20th, 2016Decanted for 1.5 hours. Deep purple/red. Restrained but powerful nose. Absolutely delicious on the palate with perfectly ripe fruit, backing gripping tannins from oak and grapes and excellent acid. Will age for 10 easy but wonderful now
