Clos Lointain The Spectra Grenache 2023, France

Reddish in color with medium intensity.

Fruity nose of red fruits with light oak, earth, vegetables, herbs, tobacco leaf, peppercorn, garrigue, spices, black tea and light pencil lead.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with fresh cherries, sweet raspberries, light wood, tobacco, chocolates, river rocks, coffee, peppercorn, bitter herbs and light iron notes.

Medium length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This young Grenache from Languedoc-Roussillon in France, is spicy and entertaining. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Complex and fruit forward.

Needs more time in the bottle to mature properly, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 to 10 years.

This Single Vineyard Grenache is already showing nice elegance, and feels like a Southern Rhone red.

Good right out of the bottle and easy drinking. Good by itself or with food.

A blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Grenache Gris.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$75.

Clos Lointain – The Spectra Grenache 2023, Côtes Catalanes (Roussillon) IGP, France 🇫🇷

Overview
100% Grenache from organically grown vines in Côtes Catalanes, crafted in a silky, old-vine Mediterranean style, translucent yet concentrated, emphasizing texture, perfume, and elegance over power.

Aromas & Flavors
Wild strawberry, raspberry compote, red plum skin, dried rose, white pepper, crushed herbs, and a subtle stony/mineral whisper. Pure red-fruit spectrum with beautiful lift.

Mouthfeel
Medium body, ultra-smooth and velvety. Fine, powdery tannins with a seamless glide across the palate. Silky, almost Burgundian texture for Grenache. Balanced warmth (14.7%) but never heavy.

Food Pairings
Herb-roasted chicken, grilled lamb chops, ratatouille, mushroom dishes, or simple charcuterie. Also dangerously good on its own.

Verdict
A graceful, texture-driven Grenache that shows restraint and polish. Elegant, soulful, and quietly complex, this is finesse Grenache, not blockbuster mode. My kind of bottle all day.

🍷 Did You Know?
Roussillon’s schist and limestone soils plus old-vine Grenache often deliver that signature silky texture and aromatic lift, more “whisper and glide” than the richer, jammy styles from warmer regions.
