Domaine François Buffet
Pommard Pinot Noir

Big, classic Pommard nose with stones, black cherries, darker red cherries, some hints of fed licorice and some black plums. So expressive and aromatic. Floral and expansive. Buffet makes some of the best Volnay/Pommard village wines in all of the Cote de Beaune. Stunning expansiveness once the nose gets going. Palate is juicy, stoney and plummy initially with that classic 2020 Buffet depth of fruit. Structured and very stoney and very Pommard with unreal clarity and depth. This is 9.3++++ for now. Let’s see what air brings.
9.3 to 9.4 with air. Nose is so deep and so stoney. Palate is juicy, compact and super clean. Great concentration and explosive fruit. Opulent texture and terrific ripe tannins. Phenomenal.

Sacre Bleu ! I had this with a hamburger. Now a proper hamburger. Salted through and through. Mixed with sautéed shallots. Cloth bound cheddar. Brioche bun. A dab of chutney. NO ketchup (vinegar and wine dont mix). Basically a burger that the French would make if they didn’t consistently fuck up burgers. And make them with shite French beef.
Nose: dusty in the best way possible Deep. Dark. Almost gothic. Al elegant brambriness as it opens.
Palate: dense dark blackberry fruit. Blackberry liquor. Delicious. Almost chewy. Fresh though.
The perfect wine for beef on a Monday. A proper burger. Steak au poivre. Bloody duck.
This is a solid 93. But a gorgeous 93 with the right food. It’s shows the breadth of Burgundy.
