Far Niente Winery
Post & Beam Carneros Chardonnay
Carneros, North Coast, California, USA

From the Far Niente winery. Medium lemon color with aromas of stone fruit, floral, spice and citrus. On the palate apple, melon and pear flavors, with lemon zest, vanilla and toasty notes. Nice balance with bright acidity on long finish, savory with spicy rich oaky mineral ending, slightly creamy, very nice!

The look is similar, slightly simpler (than Far Ninety). The taste is still high quality. I honestly felt like this tasted as expected in this price range, but I can also remember wines I’ve tasted that were more expensive that I liked less, and vice versa. So, overall, I think this is a good bet if you want that luxe feel for (slightly) less lira. I tried the 2023 Carneros Chardonnay, which is more rich and big. The nose gives lemon balm, vanilla bean, tangerine, quince and chalk, buffered by baking spice. The palate is luscious but bright and shimmery, the acidity taking turns with vanilla and cream to show off, garnished by caramel. Rather scrumptious, definitely a food Chard, but not so much that you couldn’t enjoy it on its own, especially heading into autumn.

Aug 27th, 2024Fragrant aromas of lemon curd, yellow apple, white flowers, wet stones and orange zest. Flavors of lemon, melon, pear, peach and tropical fruits. Light notes of vanilla, saline and subtle oak on the long and vibrant finish. Elevated acidity (but still well balanced) and a soft creamy texture. Bright, clean and crisp with a slight bit of heft. Approachable and refreshing. Outstanding quality! Excellent wine from an excellent producer. Thank you so much for the gift, Keith S!

Oaky, buttery, but not too strong. Full body. White flowers and nutmeg on the nose.
