The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is incredibly polished and sophisticated. Silky tannins give the 2017 its racy, sleek personality. Over the last year, the 2017 Riserva has really settled into a gorgeous place. There is plenty of vintage 2017 intensity, but Rancia is distinctly medium in body and restrained. The wilder side of Sangiovese, one of the signatures of Rancia and Fèlsina.

Amazing flow on the palate. Great purity of fruit, the tannins juicy & beautifully polished, nice energy & balance.
Depth, character, nice complexity yet so drinkable. Love the dark cherry paired with savoury roast, herby hints.

Red sauce is my kryptonite. Leathery barrel notes had to blow off. Tight cherries and cocoa. Lot of acid and medium tannins. Started to mellow but half bottle didn’t last that long. With Peno - best new Italian in STL.

Sep 20th, 2021Bright and youthful in colour, the nose was initially closed but opened up on decanting. Sour cherry and dried mint. Medium high acidity and firm, tight tannins. Needed decanting to evolve the palate. Great food wine. Probably deserves more patience and time to be more giving.
