Gaja
Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, Italy

One of Angelo Gaja’s two Tuscan properties, is on the site of an old church, Santa Restituta, which dates back to the 4th century. Deep Ruby with pronounced aromas of ripe berry fruits and floral notes. On the palate flavors of juicy cherry and raspberry with cacao, cedar spice and gentle pepper spice. Fine tannins, great balance, complex long finish ending with earthy herbs, fruit and oaky notes. Nice! Tasting Sample!

Aromas of macerated red fruit, dried herbs and wood smoke. Flavors of dark cherries, dried tarragon, basil and sage, and smoky vanilla. Touch of minerality on the long and lingering finish with ample acidity. Extremely savory and complex. In its prime. Should have decanted this one. Thank you for sharing this bottle, Petey P! A classic Montalcino with the acidity of Sangiovese.
Great balance for easy drinking.
I enjoy the spice nuances on the nose as well.

I remembered that I drank the year 2009 of this wine about four years ago. I brought a bottle from Greve in Chianti (from my favorite Enoteca Falorni). My rating then was 9 (on Delectable). I didn't write any note so I don't remember what was so special about it.
But this one has a fantastic balance. It makes this wine so powerful and overwhelming. I adore connection between a vanilla, a chocolate and a pepper. I read some opinions below - none mentioned the pepper, so maybe I'm wrong, but I don't care.

Fantastic wine. Cherry and earth, beautifully smooth and balanced. Great with food or alone.
