Medium ruby , slightly lighter rim , touch of terracotta . This is really quite complex , with more development than the others. Slightly more spiced cherry , touch of smoky tea , high toned with rose , truffle and leather . Each time you return to the glass you can find something new . On the palate this is very fresh , some earthy sous bois , red cherry , porcini , elegant and refined , very long length. Spiced cherry , earthy , truffled finish . Polished but noticeable tannins , fresh acidity , perfectly balanced , alcohol completely integrated . Really refined and elegant, enormously complex and thrilling to drink . Just starting to drink quite well with time and will probably continue at this level if not improve over the next 10-15 years

Second straight time - just not feel in’ it. It was fine. But nothing memorable. Strange to me that for a 22 year old wine there was zero sediment. The edges in the glass were light but not the typical orange hewed. Definite tea notes with astringent finish. Some fruit but nothing pronounced. Finish was short. Decanted and drank this bottle over 5 hours with no change throughout. I was just surprised it had no complexity or layers to it. Just straight forward and narrow. Oh well…

2000 Conterno Monfortino Barolo Reserva. Decanted 1.5 hours before serving and it was still opening up. Could easily have decanted this 3 hours in advance. Still, it was approachable and a very elegant wine. Tons of tannin and structure. ACan see how this wine will develop into a superstar. Really plush wine. Dark fruit on the front, oriental spice, cedar and earth notes on the finish.
