What a wine! I love how Rioja hold back wines for sale when they are much older and drinking perfectly mature. Notes of cherry, soy, dill, savory spice, longe and haunting in the nose and fresh and clean on the palate. Finishes long too and smooth, finely grain tannin.

A classic traditional Rioja with much oak, nice concentration, better decanted this 1998 holds much power and is pleasant, will keep up many years in the cellar

Starting to brown on the edges, but still dark purple. A beautiful nose gives way to tobacco and dark fruit. A bit lean in the mouth feel, but a long finish.

Everyone knows I’m a fan of LRA but I’ve not had the 98 for a long time!
As I just found some @ £68 I had to try & it’s lovely for the money with lots of life left 👍
