Viñedos del Contino (CVNE)
Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend
La Rioja Alavesa, La Rioja, Spain

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2016 Reserva pours a ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart, ripe and dried fruits: black cherry, toasted coconut, dried dill, tobacco, well oiled all glove, a whiff of varnish and fine baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a delicious, somewhat modern leaning Rioja that’s true to place. Drink now through 2041.

A 10 year Rioja, drinking beautifully, all smooth, fresh nose with good fruits and a chewy mouth feel. Medium to full body, tasty

Mar 21st, 2026What an intense and powerful Rioja. Blend of Tempranillo (85%), Graciano (10%) and Mazuelo (5%). Aromas of red and black cherry/currant fruit with hints of herbs, violets and dry earth. Pallet notes more black berry/currant and plum fruit with notes of chocolate, black tea, baking spices and herbs. Not overly oaky (French Oak aging?) Nice depth with a bit of a creamy texture. Dusty tannins and quite dry.
