PNP after shoveling the driveway. Inviting nose with dry cocoa powder prominent. This wine drinks like Gamay. Sour, over ripe strawberries, tangy raspberries, a bit of chalky tannins that are short lived. Minus 1 point for a metallic bitterness on the finish.

You've all had this before. It's Penfold's budget offering, and it's the secret weapon in my braised short rib. Cue Julia Childs, "A splash for the short rib, a half bottle for me..." Holy man, this leaves you feeling like you ate a pack of Sour Patch Kids. Puckering. Super sour blackberries, herbs, and some cedar tannins. Long finish.

This charming wine is keeping me company while I bake tonight. User reviews are all over the place, but in my humble opinion, this 2022 is very good. A light bodied Neb, with bright juicy fruit, bitter but pleasant floral, and a tasteful kiss of oak which lends some depth. Good holiday wine.

Wow, this is spectacular! Plenty of life ahead of it, too. The wine is a very pale brick color. It is fresh and vibrant, but beautifully complex. Red sour cherries, juicy and acidic, leather, mint, a little dust on the rose petals. Medium plus on the tannins. I would love to have this with a lot more age. Should be a great wine for a charcuterie spread, and at $19 I feel like a highway robber.

Wanted an inexpensive steak wine tonight, and I got lucky with this one. Bold blackberries and cassis, yes, but this wine has poise and elegance. Wonderfully balanced with a luxurious mouthfeel, I'd be satisfied spending 3x what I did ($18)

A very pleasing CDP. Vibrant ruby color, a quick whiff of smoke on the nose. Juicy red fruit with good structure. I tried (without luck) to find a Rotie from Stefane Ogier on the recommendation of @Doug Powers but I did find this wine. Same Ogier?

Dave
This is 2015 Cold Hand Winery "Ribes Rubrum." Made in Denmark from Red Currants, this dry bubbly is bottle fermented and has plenty of stuff floating in it. Brownish orange in color. Very bubbly and very sour! Tastes like sour berries and green garden clippings. I've never had anything like this. $25, I'd probably get one more for Christmas with the relatives. It's a conversation piece.
