Not only does the winery have gorgeous views atop Conn Valley in Napa overlooking Lake Hennessy, the wines are delicious...but more importantly, the people are gracious and kind. Highly recommend visiting.

Though their other wines get more fanfare (mainly because there is more to go around), their CabFranc is always my favorite offering. At a whopping 2 barrels of production, getting access can be a bit tricky. For a cab franc, there is zero green pepper notes. Aromatically, it is a combo of rich, ripe red and black fruits all dipped in fondue chocolate, baking spices like cinnamon and clove with a woodsy note like sandalwood. While decadent in profile, there is plenty of acidity here to keep this from being too flabby. Notes of Christmas spice cake, red and black licorice, Black Forest cake shavings and a hint of herbs on the finish. Still quite youthful, this seems to just be entering a drink phase.

@Bryan Kesting : Was a wine club member here for a quite a while. Solid across the board. Winemaker here also makes wine for Jack Winery in Atlas Peak and a few other small labels. They also do a cabernet, a mountain proprietary, Grenache and a white blend. Happy to send you a bottle of those or open one next time you’re down here.

Just got back from our cruise but want to keep California Wine Month going strong. Decided to crack open our favorite bottling (ATM) from Aonair.

Dark ruby red. Layered nose with cinnamon, blackberries, black currants and dark gravel. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Needed some air to fill up in the mid palate. Nice level of complexity with some solid minerality on the palate. A touch savory too and notes of blackberries, spices, dried herbs and a little bit of blue fruits. Long finish. Drink till 2028.

Steve Distler, owner of Arnyca, is doing consulting for a few small labels out in Napa. As I've posted before, his Arnyca cab franc is my favorite out of Napa Valley. He was the former GM at O'Brien Estate and was able to add them to his portfolio, along with Cobden Wini (winemaker for Arnyca and winemaker at O'Brien), Frias Family and Jack Winery. Killer line-up of small production stuff. We hosted him for a wine dinner and all of it was stellar.

Jack Winery utilizes the talents of Aonair winemaker Grant Long Jr. Jack was started by Vernon Wells (former MLB player) and Chris Ianetta (current MLB player). This '14 cab is from Diamond mountain and drinking well at a young age. Not as monstrous as young Howell Mountain cabs. Red and black fruit dominant with a decent amount of espresso and pepper. Needs to rest for a few years but has very good potential to be extremely good.

This winery no longer exists, per se. it was sold years ago to grant- the owner of Aonair. He named it Reverie 2. This wine is maybe 2-3yr past its prime. But pretty and resolved. — a year ago

Sonoma County Blanc de Noir

May 28, 2020. We were welcomed at the winery with a glass of this in late February. It is SO GOOD. Brought a bottle home and have subsequently purchased more to support Aonair during the pandemic shutdown. A beautiful Blanc de Noir, light salmon color and so smooth. Very easy to drink. Lovely alone or with food. Nice with Italian flourless chocolate cake, too. I’d drink it any time. — 6 years ago

Just got back from visiting, the patio is amazing. Sweeping views with a fire pit and Adirondack chairs for tasting in the ultimate comfort. If you haven't visited you must. The caves and story of their construction will blow your mind.

@Delectable Wine : This is the Aonair Winemaker’s Reserve bottling. I didn’t see it in the database.

When I asked Grant what the “winemakers Reserve” was, he said “the good sh*t”, so I’m not sure what the makeup is here. Having enjoyed quite a few Aonair wines over the years, this seemed more like the Cabernet Reserve as opposed to the Mountains Proprietary sporting the higher toned red/black fruit profile with a bit of tangy oak. Very unique as it seemed a cross between American and French oak. Dark chocolate frosted black cherries, currant, violets and a mixed berry pie dominate both the nose and palate. Fine grain tannins at the finish. This needed a few hours to open up as the aromatics and palate were a roller coaster. Give this a few hrs of air or hold another 2-3yrs.

Diamond Mountain District Barbera 2015

Lovely story here at Reverie II. Grant Long, winemaker for Aonair, Blue Oak, Jack, and others, purchased the original Reverie label/brand from Diamond mountain after the owner sold the property. All current grapes and barrels were theirs and they moved their estate on the other side of 29, just down the road from Hunnicutt and re-branded as Reverie II. BEAUTIFUL new spot! Views are amazing. Part of the Aonair team left to now run this, so we knew before we showed up that it would be a great time.

Reverie II focuses on some unique wines...their white is a Marsanne Rousanne, and their reds are Tempranillo, barbera, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv and a special Reserve Cab Sauv. While all were enjoyable, this barbera was incredible. Totally blown away. Pinot-esque with the cherry and cedar notes, but the finish had the smallest hint of blackberries and blueberries. Acidic and wonderfully balanced. A must stop visit, if for the views only!
