The 3rd matching wine in the degustation at Restaurant Dan Arnold. I’ve been a long time fan of Yarra Yering back to the 1980’s, pretty much exclusively with their reds. This Dry White is a blend of Semillon and Chardonnay. ( not as per the title) Lemon and lime notes on nose and palate with M plus acid I recall. Certainly drinking this in its infancy. — 2 years ago
Appearance: hazy orange wine
Nose: Aromas of apricot, muted citrus fruits, crushed rock, black tea.
Taste: tea/Arnold Palmer, bright citrus, grippy tannins, hay, medium + acid, clean mineral finish

Between the 19 St Arnold Divine Reserve and 20 St Arnold Bishop's Barrel, this one was a clear number 1. Barley wine firing on all cylinders with bourbon barrel influence on the front and toasted chocolate and spice cake notes with wild vanilla and honey. Nice bottle of beer. — 7 years ago
It’s like an Arnold Palmer, but as a wine. Thirst-quenching, and delightful. All kinds of briny too — 8 years ago
lightly effervescent / arnold palmer / lemon verbena — 2 years ago
Degustation with Delectable friend Byron Hewett and his wife Paulina at Restaurant Dan Arnold in Brisbane. This was the first matching wine, a Muscadet from the Loire Valley. Fresh and grapey. No oak influence, low acid Must drink more Muscadet in the warmer months. — 2 years ago
Ok Burgundy, I think I’m starting to understand you. Recommended by Matt Arnold at WineFeed, this is an elegant wine. There is a grounded etherealness to it. Is that a word? Anyway, the delicate cherry, raspberry and orange peel maintains weight with an almost sappy quality that never gets close to being cloying. Faint earthiness in the background. Good depth but is impressive through balance and drinkability. — 6 years ago
Aged in 20 months in barrel. All used oak. Large & small barrels.
The nose reveals; a touch of funk, sour notes on the fruit, blackberries, blue & purple fruits, black raspberries, black licorice, whiff of herbaceous notes, some white & black pepper, dark rich soils, black cherry cola, crush rocks, soft wood notes with; violets, lavender, red & purple flowers.
The body is medium with firm, tarry, chewy tannins. The fruits are bright and juicy and falls into dusty dark earthiness. Sour notes on the fruit, blackberries, blue & purple fruits, black raspberries, black licorice, whiff of herbaceous notes, some white & black pepper, dark rich soils, sandstone, black cherry cola, crush rocks, dry stones, soft wood notes with; violets, lavender, red & purple flowers. The acidity is high and waterfallish. The finish is leaner, nicely balanced & ripe.

The final wine at the Yarra Yering dinner in Brisbane last Thursday night 3rd October 2024 with winemaker Sarah Crowe. Fitting that Dry Red No. 1 should be the final wine - arguably the Jewel in the Crown. Initial aromatic impressions are gorgeous. This is the 50th vintage of Dry Red No. 1. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Brief notes - blackberry, aniseed and bay leaf. A medium bodied Cabernet with M+ intensity and finishing with fine boned tannin structure. Power with poise, concentration with finesse. Will live for 20 years plus. I have been buying on an irregular basis for many years. The 1990 was a highlight. I asked Sarah, who was Chairman of the Royal Sydney Wine Show this year to compare 3 of the main Cabernet producing areas in Australia - Yarra Valley leafy fragrance, Coonawarra Mint, and Margaret River herbaceousness.
