The Barns at Hamilton Station

Meritage 2017

Fantastic at eight years old! Vibrant dark/red fruit… a touch of thyme and a pinch of rosemary. Michael Shaps built this and you can tell. Fantastic attack (cherry sweetness) and the mid palate is just a tango of balance (slightly stewed fruit and herbs)…
Medium finish but delightful in staying inside the boundaries for what this wine is meant to do

Chardonnay 2017

Simply exquisite! One of Michael best builds. All round hill fruit :) this was gold in GovCup (2019?) This raises the bar for both terroir and maker! — 6 years ago

Domaine des Tours

Réserve Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Red Rhone Blend 2004

From the cellar of Blue Hill at Stone Barns. One of the steals of the wine world and very hard to come by, as this sub $70 bottle is made by the illustrious Château Rayas and Emmanuel Raynaud. By no means am I a Merlot drinker and by no means does this bottle seem anything but Syrah. Funky and animalistic showing boysenberry, sweet red currants, dried flowers and garrigue. Finishes with good length and impressive complexity. — 6 years ago

Okanogan Estate & Vineyards

Merlot 2011

My last bottle of this, and maybe one of the last in the world. Rusty edge. Brownish. Smells of barns, soil and earthy stuff. With forest wild berries. Complex AF nose. Flavors are lovely with coffee and mocha hints fighting with the well expressed fruit. Aged amazingly. Balanced. Perfectly balanced. This is as good as any French Boudreaux I’ve had. Aged well. So sad this wine is no longer in existence. — 2 years ago

Kumeu River

Coddington Chardonnay 2012

First discovered this wine at SingleThread Farms staff holiday party surrounded by Grand Cru white Burgundy. Concentrated and impressively layered showing ripe peaches, creamy vanilla bean, white flowers and hints of Gruner-like white pepper spice. Finishes with very good depth and focus. Absolute incredible value at sub $50 and a rare instance where my glass costs more than the wine....From the cellar of Blue Hill at Stone Barns. — 6 years ago

Malbec 2015

This is the moment when I realized that I can really enjoy and 89 point rating wine… There are technical reasons why this is not 90 points or greater for me, yet it was DELICIOUS! The beauty of this wind is it’s delicate treatment and the patience to let it air rate and open up like a gorgeous rose on the summer morning. There is a sensual Pinot like element that requires you to not expect the varietal correctness of Malbec. Rather, remember that it’s from Round Hill Virginia and the skill of Michael Shaps is at play here. This is one of those germs that you are glad you discovered and were thoughtful enough to buy more than one bottle ;) it will be exciting to see what 16 and 17th and it just taste like!! — 8 years ago

Le Charlemagne Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

From a terrific vintage for Corton-Charlemagne, and evident here from Vougeraie. Rich, complex and luckily showing no premox. Ultramarine Wines

Heintz Vineyard Blanc de Noirs Pinot Noir 2014

Hands down my favorite domestic sparkler and at the quality level of many prestigious champagnes. Rich, complex and with racy energy showing bruised golden apples, baked brioche, salted hazelnuts and minerals. Finishes with terrific length and depth. Catherine et Pierre Breton

Nuits d'Ivresse Bourgueil Cabernet Franc 2015

With our resourcED box from Blue Hill at Stone Barns w/ pheasant. Gave this about an hour of air and served with a very slight chill. Nose: dig a pit at the beach in the sand and a long baby back rib roast and maybe throw some grilled peach in there. Palette is multifaceted, dark chocolate covered cherries. A lil funk, cuz it’s sans sulfur, but not overbearing. — 6 years ago
