A blend of Paso’s 3 leading red varieties, CS, Syrah and Zin, and it did not disappoint.
Blackberry, red cherry, worn leather, dark chocolate, dark pepper and light herbals on the nose. The full body was rich and fresh, with smooth yet firm tannins.
The best bottle I’ve tasted yet from this winery, and will continue to improve over the next 5 years also. — 6 years ago
Amazingly smooth and the after bite is fire. I am very impressed well worth the buy!!! — 7 years ago
First introduction to the power of J.L. Chave. Dried blueberries and cherries fill the nose followed by a rush of pepper and freshly dried herbs, particularly thyme and rosemary. Dried cranberries and red currants lead the charge on the palate with smoked meat and the earthiness that I love from Rhône style wines right behind. Terrific mouthfeel with the right amount of tannins and acidity, and a long fruit forward finish. Chave’s Hermitage is a top dream wine for me, and this just adds fuel to the fire. — 8 years ago

Clear, deep ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with medium intensity primary and secondary aromas of blackberries, cassis, and graphite; on the palate, it's dry with high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, full body, and pronounced primary and secondary flavors of black cherries, blueberries, black cardamom and bell pepper with a long finish. This wine is complex and intense. Overall, I rate this wine as very good. — 4 months ago
2015 is reporting for duty. Balanced with brighter fruit and acid with cassis, plums and pencil elements. One could drink this with a variety of meats, fowl and fish. This wine is locked and loaded and ready to fire. — 4 years ago
On the palate this one absolutely shines with blackberry throughout and so many candy, licorice, and liqueur notes that you'll be picking out brands. This one was really lovely in front of a roaring fire. — 5 years ago

A bold cab, very dry with deep flavors. A 2018 bottle tastes as if it’s been aged for a decade. You will taste and smell pungent aromas of cherry and raspberry. Drink this one by the fire and share with a friend. One of the best quality wines you will find for being widely available — 6 years ago
Our anniversary wine. Lots of spice and pepper- just perfect — 6 years ago
First candle lit dinner with Remi. JB and Ali got her down while Ali artfully cut and ate her steak with one hand. Also, the grill caught on fire, but JB saved the steaks at the perfect level of char. The spinach was delicious, and the dirt that Ali left on it from the farmers market will help tremendously with digestion. — 7 years ago
Fruity and dry. 6 years out of its window but still great. — 5 months ago

Iron and blackberry right off the nose. There is airy clove and black current quality to it that seems to disappear on the tongue. It reminds me of super fine, dark chocolate. The image that comes to mind is a living oak tree— it tastes alive. Pair with pets for a Beauceron, a loyal, intelligent, devoted dog breed that is known for guarding livestock. Sit in front of a fire, drinking this wine while eating some dark chocolate. Or better yet, a hearty filet mignon that you can share with your new Beauceron best friend. — 3 years ago

Never tasted an oak tree but if you say so🤷🏼♂️, can we see the dog 🐕?I'd still prefer wine after a dry run, but this whiskey sure did hit a spot. The balance and complexity of the Machir Bay is just undeniable, evident from the score achieved here. Fresh, zesty fruits are starkly juxtoposed with pastry-like nutty, creamy vanillin notes. The peat straddles the line between salinity and camp fire smoke. A rockstar finish that just lingers with sweet, malty flavour and a generous sprinkle of salt and pepper. Needs a little air to sort out some initial aggression, but once that settles, I felt nothing was out of place. Best entry-level Islay for me! 2019 bottling here. — 5 years ago
V13. So nice..soft cedar nose. Fresh cherry and hints of black cherry fruit. Tart and dirty finish. Simple, balanced, good — 6 years ago
Cved 2/28/20 after MB tasting of Ampeau Merseault ‘97 fire comp. color is much darker amber. Nose a bit on the oxidized side but not overly so and balanced profile and long finish. Opened next day and went well with dinner. — 6 years ago
So smooth but full bodied — 8 years ago

Big plum, blackberry, and dark cherry flavors. Black pepper. Plenty of zippiness. A bit of earthiness. Delicious with pizza. Excellent wine. — 3 months ago
