Marquette. When Chris was back. Calico skies — 5 years ago
Sepia filter courtesy of smoke filled skies here in Oakland. If the end of the world is coming we better get drinking. Let’s start with some regal Chasselas. Six years in the bottle this is starting to pick up some weight with hints of butterscotch on top of the lemongrass and citrus pith notes you’d expect from this stony little white. Quite delicious. — 6 years ago
Really fine Pinot. Nose skies out of the glass. Moist earth, sweet spices, tangy, rich black cherry juice, a bit of sweet, high-toned smoke. In the mouth it’s so flavorful yet seems to float. Very pure, tangy flavors that cling. Very little tannin. Seemingly still pretty youthful. — 6 years ago
Like taking a cold shower and a breath of fresh air at the same time. Diving into this basket of ripe, red raspberries and delicate rose petals has me feeling light. Coupled with a little fennel, and a touch of white pepper on the palate, I think I’ve officially found my go-to warm evening red. I don’t like repeating wines, but this - this is a very refreshing welcome amidst this hideous European summer - what a drag. Who wants sun and blue skies? No one. — 7 years ago
Orangey, herby, and nutty. We had with pasta and sausage. Would be perfect paired with roasted chicken. But really skies the limit with what dishes you want to pair with. — 8 years ago

Beach me up vibes all day baby. Smells like white peaches and clear skies and seashells. Zings on the tongue and you need that warming zing if like me you are gonna dip into the Pacific (soon I hope anyway I love the sea). The palate is chilled melon, gushing wet stone, and some sort of flower whose name I’ll never remember.
It’s terrible, I can name 7 synonyms for Tempranillo, but when it come to the rest of all botanica I can’t get it together.
Anyway. This finishes a with a hit of grapefruit flavor so from stone fruits to melon to citrus it runs the fruit gamut.
Gushing wet stone is the through-line. I don’t know if it has a dramatic arc but I don’t think it needs it. — 4 years ago
A dark ruby red color. Big nose! Raspberry, cherry tart jumps from the glass with a floating aroma of forest floor and green herbs lingering. A tart cherry juicy flavor hits the tip and mid pallet. A mandarin peel floating in strawberry spice toasted herbs gives the wine a long smooth finish with definite tannins still present. Smokey skies outside so a nice early evening inside drinking a good Pinot with Nachos! — 6 years ago

The skies parted and I got to pour several of these at an event . Let’s say it was amazing to sip this over 6 hours. #charmedlife #lovemyjob — 8 years ago
Dried pea, white mushroom, dried rose petal, rubber plant, lemon essence, wonton, white pepper nose. On the palate, less subdued and stratified with rich veins of lively golden apple, mouth-watering lemon, crystalline pineapple, lime oil, and salted lime and candied grapefruit peel. Finally, carroway seed ghosts in rye skies glittering with lemon-salt skies.

Great WA State Cab, had Calico from Bergevin and enjoyed it. Moonspell is on a another plane. Soft Tannins, dark red fruit, slight vanilla. Got it for under $15 online at Wine Library. — 5 years ago
Cheers to more blue skies in northern California! 💙 The 2017 Syrah, Grenache, Mataro from Ridge Vineyards is a lovely new world GSM blend 🍷
62% Syrah
27% Grenache
11% Mataro (Mouvedre)
This Syrah dominated wine exhibits aromas of red currant, raspberries, plums, thyme, cedar, oak, and some pepper. On the palate, you'll get a fruit driven viscous sensation probably as a result of the malolactic fermentation. The seemingly sweet tobacco flavors linger on the palate with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
14.2% ABV. Medium-plus body.
This Southern Rhone style wine did great on a Thursday night! 🍷
Cheers!

Had to capture the contrast between the cobalt blue sky and the lava lamp neon orange skin fermented wine. Reminiscent of a Jules Verne novel.
Oranges and apricots in the bouquet blend with honey bee pollen aromas.
Sips of this are sun kisses showering down from the skies as rays of refreshing , thirst quenching flavor.
Clementine surf on a spindrift of apricots cresting into a thyme undercurrent.
Despite having a considerable amount of sediment, which I allowed to diffuse into the elixir, I couldn’t detect much of the funky notes they warn you of. Just rounded out sips of pleasure and satisfaction.
Simply, simply love this. — 6 years ago
Dark just like the skies around here, big and luscious — 7 years ago

Full of bright, red fruit with grainy but mild tannins, a whiff of oak and some soy notes, the 2020 Calico Syrah (released 2025) is fresh, fruit forward and surprisingly light on its feet. Really enjoyable with some time in the glass. — a month ago
