Gavi Cortese 2025

Rosa Dell’Olmo – Gavi DOCG 2025
Cortese – Piemonte, Italy 🇮🇹

Overview
Made from 100% Cortese, the 2025 vintage stays remarkably faithful to the elegant Gavi style. Compared with the 2024, the profile is strikingly similar, showing perhaps a touch more freshness and lift while preserving the crisp, mineral-driven character that makes this appellation so consistently enjoyable.

Aromas & Flavors
White flowers, pear, green apple, lemon zest, and subtle citrus blossom, supported by delicate mineral notes and a clean, dry finish.

Mouthfeel
Light to medium-bodied with lively acidity, refreshing minerality, and a slightly more vibrant energy than the previous vintage. Crisp, graceful, and effortlessly drinkable.

Food Pairings
Oysters, grilled shrimp, seafood pasta, sushi, fresh salads, goat cheese, or enjoyed as a refreshing aperitif.

Verdict
Rather than reinventing the wine, the 2025 vintage builds on the strengths of the 2024. The differences are subtle, with a slightly brighter and more uplifting profile, making it another reliable expression of classic Gavi.

Did You Know?
Gavi was the first white wine in Piemonte to earn DOCG status. While the region is famous for Barolo and Barbaresco, Gavi has long been considered one of Italy’s benchmark dry white wines thanks to the Cortese grape’s naturally vibrant acidity and mineral elegance.

🍷 Personal Pick
What impressed me most is the consistency. Tasted side by side, the 2025 doesn’t try to be dramatically different—it simply feels a touch fresher while preserving everything I enjoyed about the 2024. That’s exactly the kind of reliability I appreciate in a well-made Gavi.

Barolo Nebbiolo 2021

Trader Joe’s Classic!!!! This usually stinks. But not in this stellar 2021 vintage. Not super complex but more on the elegant side. I would think this will age for 10 years or so. After 24 hours even better and more convincing. Quite tannic! Grab it by the case while it is there the 2022 will be awful (my prediction). And at 20 bucks…….. — 9 months ago

80 Years Vinho Verde Branco White Blend

A very pleasing, exciting, and effervescent white. The nose is flowers, ripe berries, and green apple, while the palate offers a zingy, pleasing green-apple acidity balanced by a little sweetness and a tingling effervescence. A touch of minerality in there too. The finish is clean, a little sweet and quite refreshing. Hard not to just quaff this one. Delicious. — 6 years ago

Vinho Verde White Blend

A fresh, semi sweet wine ideal for summer! Mild acidity with hints of pear and green apple. Pairs very well with crackers, sharp cheddar cheese and grapes. It is a very good wine for the low pricepoint and fun to enjoy while snacking outdoors. — a month ago

Great value for smooth but robust Barbera. Enough going on to keep it interesting. Not sure it was very distinct though but really drinkable. — 6 years ago

Eira Dos Mouros Ribeiro Treixadura 2015

Portuguese grape called Treixadura, but made in Northern Spain. Pretty floral nose, full bodied & a lemon curd & fresh berry thingy going on. Unique and the kind of thing I want to be discovering. — 7 years ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2022

This wine looks like a rosato, lightly tinted for a red wine. The nose offers bright cherry and lilac scents. On the palate, juicy and vibrant red fruit are a delight, while the acidity is refreshing and the tannins are medium-firm. It finishes medium, with plenty of fruity reminders of the sip. With summer on the way, keep this one in mind if you need a light red to chill for the patio. — 2 months ago

Colares Malvasia 2017

Italian cream soda, caramel du sel, dried apricot. Hints of sherry and nori umami, with a rich creamy mouthfeel. Finish goes on forever. Think vin jaune aged in sauterne casks by the ocean in sanlucar de barrameda. Malvasia from colares, Portugal. Can’t believe this is only 3 years old. — 6 years ago

This is the wine region I’ve fallen in love with- the reds from Colares are of the Ramisco varietal. The amount of wine from that region is minuscule @Josh Morgenthau- I cant find the whites here so far (NYC)

@Peter Sultan they are incredible. The ramiscos I’ve tried have been phenomenal but still so young. This is drinking perfectly. I got this bottle at Astor wines. They’re sold out now, but it looks like USQ wines has some.
