2008 vintage. The idea of the owner of Château d'Arsac, Philippe Raoux (who passed in 2023 at the age of 70) was to give famous winemakers worldwide "carte blanche" on a specific 10 hectares Haut-Médoc plot, planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. 13 editions were produced, and Stéphane Derencourt was in charge of the 2008 vintage. Apparently he made a blend with a bit more Merlot than Cabernet Sauvignon. A good effort in a rather challenging but good vintage, that remains in the shadows of the 2009 and 2010 vintages. Dark red with a big orange rim. More tobacco than fruit in the nose. Starting out with a pleasantly round mouthfeel, with dried fruit and spices, with slightly rustic tannins kicking in on the finish. A nice mature Haut-Médoc that I bought for 12 euro. Nice value for lovers of the savoury tertiary flavours of older Bordeaux. Abv. 13%. — 4 days ago

2008 vintage. Bernaleau family (also owners of Haut-Médoc Château de Braude and Moulis Château Galland). Situated in Arsac between Château du Tertre and Château d'Arsac. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (around 70%) with Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Great effort in a difficult vintage. Dark red with orangy rim. Cassis, flowers and cedar wood. Textbook elegant Margaux. Drinking beautifully without the harsh tannin that characterises many 2008s. Lovely and nice value. — 5 years ago

Nice, young Margaux, plenty of potential here. Needs a little time to open up but after an hour this is very enjoyable. Nose is blackcurrants, oak, vanilla and a little menthol and spice. Early on the palate is fresh and clean but a little savoury however, the fruit and some sweetness evolve as it warms up. Tannins are present but not too drying and on day two they have smoothed out. This is a good value wine, worthy of cellaring, give it five years and probably be at the sweet spot. — 6 years ago
