Château Grand Puy Lacoste

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1996

Evolved & aromatic
Cedar wood, cigar box and a touch of cassis with some earthy, gravelly undertone.
Evolved and yet very pure. And very enticing.
Beautiful, simply beautiful on the palate. Firm yet polished and ultra fine tannins, juicy acidity, juice creamy black fruit on the mid palate. Elegant with nice depth and great length.
Beautiful juicy austerity. Classic benchmark left bank Bordeaux. And delish!!!

Château Puy Blanquette

Grand Cru Saint-Émilion 2018

Leather and gravel when I first opened this bottle, and after an hour in the decanter this wine brought out a lot of fruit. Long nose. Quite the chameleon, this grand cru. Rating affirmed 3/18/23. — 3 years ago

Ok a bit of a go-to and ok 2022 is a bit young — but excellent nonetheless — 3 months ago

One of the better older Bordeaux I’ve had in quite some time. Absolutely at peak with so many layers. It outshined an ‘03 Grand Puy Lacoste (which showed thin), ‘03 Montelena (sadly corked), and an ‘03 BV Georges de LaTour (rich/sweet).

Absolutely on fire from pop, this 20yr old left bank Bordeaux showed none of the overripe/too hot characteristics of the vintage. Deep purple/black in the glass with no bricking. Full-bodied. Mocha, truffle, roasted blackberries and raspberries, graphite on the nose. Ripe (but not overly so) dark berries, plum, cassis with vanilla pipe tobacco and even some iron. Still a good bit of tannin on the finish. This shows as a “modern” style due to the warmth, but balanced. Wish I had more. Pop the corks and enjoy!

Bummer about the Montelena. I love Pontet-Canet. Great notes.

Château Grand-Puy Ducasse

Prelude a Grand-Puy Ducasse Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Second wine of classed growth Grand-Puy Ducasse. Blend 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, has Merlot that did not make the cut for the top wine. Deep Ruby red color, with aromas of ripe dark fruits, spice and herbs. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and cinnamon spice. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, smoky spice and earthy mineral character. Good now! — 3 months ago

Saint Guirons Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

Gorgeous! Incredibly fresh with youthful vigor and classic Paulliac aromatic layers and a rich and concentrated palate with grippy tannins still! This one calls for a nice juicy steak! — 6 months ago

Château Puy-Razac

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Though it’s very difficult for me to find a reasonably-priced Bordeaux I actually like, this is one. Bright nose shows dark cherry, cedar shavings, gravel, and a deep woodsy scent. Good cherry-centric fruit, loads of acidity, and a very bright mouthfeel. The acids feel almost like the bright, accentuated acids I associate with Paso Robles limestone soil. Not particularly long or complex in the mouth, but resonates more on the *fun* scale. — 5 years ago
