Beautiful fruity foretaste — 8 years ago
This shows bright berry fruit, a stony character, and cashmere-refined tannins that get even finer and silkier with air. In other words it's basically a textbook Rugiens except with even sweeter, more accessible fruit than you'd expect at this stage in its life. This is really exhibiting the beauty of the 2005 vintage, that perfect fruit and refinement, but the surprise is that it's not even remotely shut down. It's fresher and friendlier than most of the more recent vintages. — 10 years ago
Well balanced. Very good. — 11 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2022 “Le Cros Martin” (which is a lieu dit that sits just below Champans) pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of strawberry, raspberry, red flowers, sous bois, gentle cool and warm spices and limestone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely Volnay from a Pommard producer I had not tried before. Drink now through 2037. — 7 months ago
Bouquet reminds me of a cassis throat lozenge. Rich cherry fruit up front that also reminds me of a Smith Bros. throat lozenge, with strong tannins and a long finish. — 8 years ago
Could drink this all day. Fruit like crazy with subtle tannin and minerals and all other sorts of good stuff. Sit on it for 10-15 more years or drink now. — 11 years ago

Big wine and needs some additional cellar time (note to self: at least 2 years). With 93-94 potential. — 3 months ago
