Judge Family Vineyard Syrah 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of dinner. The 2015 Judge Family Vineyard Syrah pours a deep, inky, ruby/purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with pungent notes of bacon fat, dark brambles, toasted blueberry crisp, lavender, dried green herbs and fine baking spice. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is aging slowly and gracefully. This remains my favorite Syrah made in the United States. Drink now through 2045. — 20 days ago

A very enjoyable off the shelf back vintage here. Nothing terribly complex, but balance point has held up wonderfully after a decade in the bottle. — a year ago

L'Enclume de Velours Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days; consistent throughout. The NV “L’Enclume de Velours” pours, a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium plus viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of cassis, brambles, Fig Newtons, bacon fat, purple flowers, tobacco, ancho chili, gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. Finishes long and savory. The texture is plush with tannins fine grained. You could drink now through most of next decade, but why wait? — 4 months ago

Penfolds

Magill Estate Shiraz 1990

It’s Australia 🇦🇺 Day today 26th Jan and this represents the commencement of wine development in Australia
Established by Dr Christopher Penfold in 1844 the vineyard was planted with cuttings brought from England
The family home was called the Grange.
Double decanted and given time to open. At 35 yrs young this will definitely develop further.
Single Magill Estate Shiraz was first created in 1983.
Dr Penfold originally planted vines to produce tonics to treat ailments like anemia and his wife developed table wines - the family eventually listed the business on the Exchange but lost control in 1970s
Must say Penfolds have been producing good ‘medicinal’ tonics for about 180 years 🤗

Appassionata Andante Pinot Noir 2017

Loads of wild strawberry, red currant, red cherry, dusty dried cherry, and a meaty smoke not on the long finish. At 13.5%abv the wine has a great balance of flavor, acidity and subtle, fine-grained tannin. A very refined wine. — 2 years ago
