Aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, cassis, licorice, dried herbs, and espresso. The palate, riding on the medium to full body, is round and lively with delicious ripe black fruits and juicy acidity.
Enjoyable now, and will have at least a decade ahead.

Not only does the winery have gorgeous views atop Conn Valley in Napa overlooking Lake Hennessy, the wines are delicious...but more importantly, the people are gracious and kind. Highly recommend visiting.

Though their other wines get more fanfare (mainly because there is more to go around), their CabFranc is always my favorite offering. At a whopping 2 barrels of production, getting access can be a bit tricky. For a cab franc, there is zero green pepper notes. Aromatically, it is a combo of rich, ripe red and black fruits all dipped in fondue chocolate, baking spices like cinnamon and clove with a woodsy note like sandalwood. While decadent in profile, there is plenty of acidity here to keep this from being too flabby. Notes of Christmas spice cake, red and black licorice, Black Forest cake shavings and a hint of herbs on the finish. Still quite youthful, this seems to just be entering a drink phase.

@Bryan Kesting : Was a wine club member here for a quite a while. Solid across the board. Winemaker here also makes wine for Jack Winery in Atlas Peak and a few other small labels. They also do a cabernet, a mountain proprietary, Grenache and a white blend. Happy to send you a bottle of those or open one next time you’re down here.

Conn Valley Cabernet Franc 2021

Majuscule Wine Conn Valley Cabernet Franc 2021, Napa Valley, California

It is time for my
#FridayCabernetfix. Here is a very tasty Cabernet Franc.

Very pretty color of dark ruby with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose with black plums, black cherries, blackberries, light cedar, licorice, vanilla, herbs, tobacco, dark chocolates, black tea and peppercorn

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity.

Dry and fruity on the palate with black currants, plums, sweet cherries, spices, light vegetables, herbs, tobacco leaf, earth, dark chocolates and peppercorn.

Spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Franc from Napa valley. Rich and elegant, tangy and interesting.

Well balanced with nice complexity already. Still very young and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Good right out of the bottle and gets more complex as it opens up. Some red fruits show up after 90 minutes in the decanter. After 4 hours, more bell pepper notes show up.

A great sipping wine, with lots of chocolate notes. Soft and smooth.

A blend of 98% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 20 months in (60% new) French Oak barrels. A tiny production of only 600 bottles made.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$90.

Herrick Red Napa Valley Red Blend 2008

Bought from LastBottle.com in November 2024. Here’s a #napavalleyred blend that has aged gracefully. Not ideal tasting conditions but a delightful cuvée where the new oak has completely integrated, still firm acidity and a good deal of primary fruit still there with no stewed fruit notes that suggest poor storage. Long supple tannins towards the finish. Opened the bottle in celebration of our 17th wedding anniversary. — a year ago

Ava Series Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Oh yeah. So much better than anything I have had from Napa Valley recently. Deep brooding earthy Cabernet Sauvignon that must be consumed with Filet Mignon or other steak. A gem of a wine that is so earthy and elegant. The tannins are perfectly smooth at this point. Powerful plum and dry cherry flavors. Buy it if you can find it. — 2 years ago

Anthology Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

A beautiful wine from a producer that I’m quite fond of (more on that in a bit). This selection is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. The fruit is sourced from six appellations: Oakville, Rutherford, Atlas Peak, Diamond Mountain, Stags Leap District, and Chiles Valley. Coming from a vintage with “typical” Napa Valley weather conditions, this bottle is the perfect iteration of Anthology for me to try for the first time. Plush, cool, sweet black & blue fruits - plums, blackberries, boysenberries - laced in Christmas spices, coffee grounds, vanilla, and star anise. On the palate a lovely, velvety texture that accentuates the sensuous plumpness that stands out on the nose. A lovely wine ✨

A quick word on Conn Creek as a producer.

Many years ago when I first “getting into” wine I had a friend who introduced me to Conn Creek (both their Cab and their red blend). After that first exposure to their wine my wife & I began keeping their wines on hand at all times, as they were ideal selections to have around the home for all kinds of occasions. Alas, this is my first Anthology and what a delicious selection it is.

Carneros Chardonnay 2017

This new vintage is actually from Sonoma County instead of Carneros. Really fresh and lean for Chardonnay. Ripe tropical fruits, Asian pear, white peach when I first smelled. Not too much malolactic going on so it’s very smooth and crisp on mid palate with a light touch of acidity afterwards. Seems like neutral or less new oak barrels were used as the vanilla and oaky flavors were subtle. This is perfect for summer fares or just paired well with Shrimps Scampi. — 7 years ago
