Black currants, green apple, unripened apricots, red cabbage, with an earthy mineral finish. Very approachable! — 7 years ago
#loveblock wine dinner. Served with pistachio crusted New Zealand lamb. The original winemaker from Kim Crawford grew this wonderful vineyard from the ground up. Lilac and smoke on the nose. Bacon fat and cigar smoke mid palate. No heat, no sharp edges anywhere. Really great QPR — 8 years ago
See previous Delectable note in July 2023. An excellent Riesling particularly for a “Young Vines Riesling “. Notes of Mandarin with traces of paraffin (TDN) being present. A fleshy luscious palate which is simply delicious - low acid. A touch of fruitiness but finishes dry. From Henty, a little known wine district on the south west coast of Victoria and exposed to the cold southern ocean. A great area for quality Riesling as Crawford River shows. Sadly my last bottle of the Young Vines 2016. — 9 months ago

Fresh and juicy Chardonnay. Lemon is the dominant flavor. Good stuff. — 8 years ago
Enjoyed with Pat’s grilled steak, but preferred the 2021 release ($38). Noted by Coco as “one of the most tannic wine grapes in cultivation”. — 2 years ago

The 2018 Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc comes from the hilltops above Marlborough’s Awatere Valley. It shows 12.5% abv and sells for $22. Erica Crawford says, “New Zealand’s signature varietal tends to be bold and big,” thanks in no small part to her husband. This wine, she says, “focuses on texture rather than enhanced aromatics.” It went through 25% malolactic fermentation in order to soften the wine. Sure enough, it’s tamer and fruitier on the nose than their previous efforts. The minerals are still there, but the sometimes overwhelming greenness is replaced by a great fruit flavor. The 2017 vintage is a little grassier on the nose and palate, but still mild in comparison to the earlier profile. — 7 years ago

Pale lemon yellow in colour. Aromas of talc and orange/mandarin skin. Palate of medium plus intensity showing mandarin flesh and lime. A cool to cold climate terroir at Henty on Victoria’s south west coast facing the southern Ocean and ensuring a long ripening period. At 11 years still very lively - the mouth puckering acid of its youth has diminished but enough there to ensure a few more years in the cellar. An exceptional Riesling and one of Australia’s best IMO. Had another bottle 31 weeks later - aromatics of Talc and white peach. HH said a stunning Riesling. — 8 months ago
