If you’ve never had a wine from Cairanne, you’re missing out on one of the wine world’s greatest values. Having just achieved AOC status in 2016, these wines from the Southern Rhône are really delicious.
This particular wine is from Denis Alary who owns one of the best domaines in the region and was instrumental in the region’s rise to AOC status. The wines are typically concentrated and full-bodied GSM blends with notes of ripe black fruit and spice. Not overly complex but well balanced and well made. I think of them as something between a Gigondas and an aged Lirac. They can be drunk young as the tannins are usually ripe and smooth. Really fun wines to drink and very budget-friendly. 2015 vintage on Aug 8, 2018. — 8 years ago
The description: Garnet red colour with sparkling cherry highlights. The nose is expressive, complex with dominant notes of red fruit that grows to the mouth. The palate is smooth, round with a good freshness. Supported by fine tannins and a velvety mouth with a lot of persistence and volume. A successful wine to enjoy without waiting.
The opinion: consistently awesome, great value for money. — 2 years ago
Vintage 2020 | My heart skips a beat like when I find a wine from a curious grape. Domaine Alary is situated in Cairanne and today I had the pleasure to meet Jean Etienne Alary. He makes this cuvée from the grape Counoise. It is very light (you could easily fool me and make me believe it is pinot or nebbiolo) and has a good structure. A pure pleasurewine. — 3 years ago

The description: deep blackcurrant-red colour, with bright cherry highlights. A profusion of black fruit flavours and soft spices on the nose. A rich full-bodied palate, sustained by freshness and a certain mineral touch. A silky, velvety tannic finish to enhance the balance. A wine for early drinking but can be cellared for 2 to 3 years. The opinion: I am buy this wine every time I go to my French wine store due the consistency of its quality. However, the 2021 has really is one out of the box and matured beautifully. — 3 months ago
