Domaine De La Vougeraie

Joshua Cooper

Ray-Monde Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

My first Joshua Cooper wine - had to check out the Young Winemaker of the year for 2020 awarded by Gourmet Wine Traveller magazine. Joshua has recently turned 32. This wine was quite rich and dense and a little closed aromatically - obviously quite young. Ripe plum, rose petals, with a little vegetal matter. - a big future ahead. Joshua has had wide experience with Australian wineries and in Burgundy with Domaine de la Vougeraie and Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron. This wine from the cool climate Macedon Ranges with high profile neighbours like Bindi and Curly Flat. — 5 years ago

Le Charlemagne Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

From a terrific vintage for Corton-Charlemagne, and evident here from Vougeraie. Rich, complex and luckily showing no premox. Popcorn, exotic citrus fruits, hazelnut and hints of flint and stony minerals. Finishes with very good length and intensity...From Blue Hill at Stone Barns Cellar. — 6 years ago

Terres de Famille Bourgogne Chardonnay 2018

Amazing wine for the price. The nose has rich buttery notes, but also a steely reductive character that could be confused with chablis. The palate delivers all the nose promises - caramel, fresh bread, and lemon, with slate and a salty twist. Surprisingly long. Punching massively above its weight. Strong buy! — 5 years ago

Rhys Vineyards

Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Very good pinot. Hard to tell it is from California...cool fruit and has that menthol taste i usually associate with the Vougeot wines from Vougeraie but also has that orange peel flavor giving it a very special character — 6 years ago

2915 Probably too young today, open for 2 hrs before drinking in decanter, light red in color, transparent, hint of strawberry, cherry, mild earthy on initial taste, light tobacco, licorice on finish. I think it will be bigger and more earthy in 5-10 yrs — 6 years ago

Bienvenues Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2016

The 7th and final GC White Burgundy. A mineral slatey nose with lovely citric acid , white peach and some toast. Medium bodied - in its infancy with great potential and energy. An ongoing theme of power and tension with these Grand Cru white Burgundies. As a general summary of the 7 Grand Cru White Burgundies they were outstanding and probably the best expressions of Chardonnay on earth. Are they worth the ever increasing $$$$s? Probably not - all in the eye of the beholder but they are incredible. Once again the monks were right in selecting the plots they did over a 1000 years ago. — 6 years ago

Les Petits Noizons Pommard Pinot Noir 2011

Started off a bit weekish with sour cherries, high acidity and a hollow fruit profile but this turned sweet after 90 min with great balance, modest fruits, perfumed nose and tertiary notes. A treat. — 9 months ago

As with the same vintage and vineyard as the Taupenot-Merme enjoyed alongside this, it seems to have everything but finesse. — 5 years ago

Il a bien évolué tout au long de la soirée en se complexifiant admirablement bien. Dans sa meilleur phrase selon moi!

Les Pruliers Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Very vegetal on the nose, cool nose. Color very pale in the glass. In time it opens up and some raspberries begin to show. Very similar in characteristic to the vougeraie clos du prieure 2013 drank a couple of days ago. Surprised to read that this producer destems all fruits. I would have called the reverse smelling the wine. — 6 years ago
