So good. Liquorice, dark, bramble, warm. — 6 years ago

Mother Vine Monopole Shiraz 2016

Rich, jammy drippings of sun soaked grapes captured in a bottle. An earthy, mineral edge makes it a classic Barossa Shiraz. A little more body and vibrancy would have made it a topper. — 7 years ago

Private Cellar Dorrien Bank Vineyard Chardonnay 2008

A classy Chardonnay for a hot vintage. Comes in at beautiful 12.5% alcohol, crisp with a touch of creaminess and hints of fresh pineapple. Well dinner was Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad so will have to make sure it goes well with it otherwise I will be forced to drink it on its own. @hewitson #vinowithmicha #sawine #chardonnay — 11 years ago

Have a few more of these squirreled away, but opened for an old friend who used to buy a ton of Hewitson wines from me — this was nearly flawless, just a stunning presentation, best it’s shown — ever. — 9 months ago

The Mourvedre 2016

Delectable - this is the Mourvèdre - not in your Database. Requested an expert review. Notes of plum and black to blue fruits - spicy, umami - finishing with a touch of tar. Easy to drink. I have always thought that McLaren Vale does Mourvèdre well. Also some old vineyards in the Clare Valley as with Wendouree (Mataro). Although one must acknowledge the Old Garden from Hewitson in the Barossa, planted in 1853 and reputedly the oldest Mourvèdre vines in the world. — 3 years ago

Private Cellar Marsanne Roussanne

One of the best Barossa Whites I've ever tried. Impeccable flavour vs body and the tension is sexy. It's not big, but it just keeps giving. 66 Marsanne, 34 Roussanne. It's worth every cent and worth hunting down. It's that good. — 10 years ago

Chocolate strikes me first. Blackberries and blueberries, a little clove, nice finish. Tannins are in check. Very pleasant. — 10 months ago

Old Garden Vineyard Mourvedre 2013

Powerful wine that went well with my Georgian lamb. Too strong to drink alone. But perfect with steak or lamb. Powerful nose with strong brooding flavors. — 3 years ago

Private Cellar Falkenberg Vineyard Shiraz 2014

Personally brought it back from Australia. The very accommodating winery and their absolute wonderful staff accommodated a direct shipment to the city I was staying, free of charge. Deep dark tanniny liquid. Dark, dry layered fruit, with satisfying complexity and a finish that kept you wanting to drink more. A bit unbalanced kept it away from a higher score. — 7 years ago

Usually Barossa shiraz is not really my cup of tea, but I did like the (relative) lightness and restraint in this wine. Still a big wine for my taste but the dark chocolatey bitterness in the aftertaste won me over. — 10 years ago
