Man I just love Norton - it is such a fun, expressive wine. It’s loud & boisterous and downright unruly, but it’s uniquely American. Inky and brimming with black fruit galore & then menthol, medicinal, licorice, forest floor, squirrely spice just pour out of the glass. So expressive. On the palate it is voluptuous w/plenty of acidity & tannins, it’s just a bit clumsy, but it means well. Black fruit compote with kitchen sink spices envelope the palate. Decent finish. Don’t know what the hell you’re supposed to eat with this stuff but it’s a lot of fun. — 5 years ago
Wow! Aged perfectly over 3 years! Like white grape juice! Will buy again! Easy to drink and serve chilled! — 6 years ago
Salty, meaty, medium bodied, pretty fun — 8 years ago
Browning edges, but a lovely nose and a full-bodied complex & lovely body with along aftertaste. I rated this better than the 1988 Vieux Telegaphe, which was not as full or as complex& with less integrated acid. This is a wonderful wine that blew my mind! — 8 years ago
Very smooth. Really enjoyed this bottle. — 9 years ago
Surprisingly good and not too sweet. Nice ripe fruits and apples — 10 months ago
Wow, what a surprise! Light and brisk. Honeysuckle big time. No after taste and a great finish like very faint citrus but no fruity. Wonderful in summertime with an ice cube. Lovely!! — 4 years ago
Very rare one-off from Nate’s early years at SSH. He source the Syrah from Horton and crafted in the “feminine” style. At 10yrs old it is really special. The acid had waned a bit (say 85% from baseline), but the aromatics were very Pinot...Oregon meets Rhône :) this was our thanksgiving dinner wine and it was great with Charcuterie and then brown sugar-cured ham, sweet potatoes, cream spinach etc. delicious!! — 6 years ago

Good desert wine - tart and sweet — 10 years ago
Wow! My cellar aging project scores another ‘discovery’ win. At almost 10 years from harvest, this Nate Walsh built beauty was doing what aged Nebbiolo is supposed to do! Using Horton fruit (Orange, Va), this bottle has metamorphosed into a seductive herbal-rose tea. It’s acidity is almost non-detectable, yet it was the perfect pairing for Tuscan-sausages & peppers w/creamy mash. The flavors of this Nebbiolo are so alive that they danced effortlessly with the sautéed peppers and complimented the herbs in the locally made Tuscans. Just wow…1 ‘12 remains plus 2 ‘10’s. — 4 years ago
Crazy crazy good effort in the cellar by Sudha with fruit from Horton (Orange County). Tannin, mouthfeel, and rich black fruit profile! — 6 years ago
spectacular. black currents. light licorice. red medicine. honey and Bing cherry on the finish. great cab franc. — 7 years ago
Nice nose with dark red with slight red as it is not nearly browning of the edges, medium to full body with some complexity and a fairly short aftertaste. I give it. 90. I noticed that Vivino says it is carignon, Grenache & Mourvèdre, which makes sense, as it is not nearly as full or as complex as the 1992 Horton Mourvèdre 89%/Syrah, which was surprising. — 8 years ago
Floral with white peach and intensely exotic melon; quite a robust body; clean medium acidity and well-developed mouthfeel. Great value! — 9 years ago

Comparing a Virginia Neb with and entry level Italian Neb. This Va. one has lots of up front fruit, with a very slight pruney note, not unpleasant. Nice effort. — 10 months ago
