Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1978

Birth year vintages are a roll of the dice but luckily I landed on a pretty solid classic - 1978. So for my birthday this year, we opened an LLC and wow was this perfect. The sommelier was surgical in removing the cork which split in half but he managed to extract it. The nose on this wine was a 10 - loads of cassis, licorice, dusty library and leather. Palate was extracted cassis, leather and great acidity and liveliness, just like my 44 year old self. It’s just pure magic when bottles this old perform - happy Friday everyone. — 4 years ago

Enderle & Moll

Muschelkalk Pinot Noir 2020

Magic.

Nose: intense but elegant game. So savory. Some lilac. Mexican Cinnamon. Wild sage.

Palate: Rich perfect deep cherry. Still red though. Licorice.

Finish is perfect. So juicy you Salvate for 2 minutes.

Perfect.

Fass selections.

Klein Constantia

Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Muscat à Petits Grains 2017

Note to self: I shouldn’t have used Coravin. Four months after first tap it’s still a great wine, but lost its magic. Intense dragonfruit on the nose, honeyed botrytis note, enveloping sweetness and almost phenolic broad palate. Like a great passito di Pantelleria, but far from the once-in-a-lifetime rainfall magic of its first tap — 2 years ago

Château Belles-Graves

Lalande de Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

I haven’t had a nice Bordeaux in a while but i typically cruise the affordable side, hoping for gems. This was a pleasant surprise. Some wood and perfume on the nose. Dark fruit, I saw someone said cassis and I can go with that - full body but with some brightness and good structure. Noticeable but integrated tannins… I’m in a good state of mind and this is brining a swell of life appreciation - can’t prove that’s on account of this exact wine but that’s the black magic of it all, eh? — 4 years ago

Agnès et René Mosse

Magic of Ju-Ju Melon de Bourgogne Chenin Blanc 2023

At 10.5% abv, this is both thirst-quenching and austere, with the Chenin providing just enough ripeness of fruit to bring things into balance. 750 mL will be easily finished by one person, so unless you’re drinking alone, buy at least two bottles — 8 months ago

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. Classic Pauillac. Cassis, lead pencil and cedar wood. Give it time to open up in the glass and see the magic unfold. A complex wine with layers of black fruit, balanced by ripe tannin and fresh acidity. Impressive mineral length. Excellent old school Pauillac. Abv. 14,5%. — 3 years ago
