3 magnums from Merryvale. Such a treat.
First up is the 2016 CF Napa Valley. This is a powerful CF compared to the 2015 I drank not long ago, displaying a lot more dark fruits and creme de cassis. Rich, deep, and balanced. Not as charismatic as the ‘15 in terms of displaying varietal characters. Immensely enjoyable still. — 3 years ago
12/2022. Bold and full of flavor. A treat for the palate. Paired well with the rib eye at Hall’s Chophouse. — 4 years ago
This Zin is at it’s peak. From a fellow ZAP volunteer photographer’s vineyard Barry grew great grapes. — 5 years ago
Earthy, big, perfect amount of oak, has aged extremely well — 7 years ago
Light and rich. Like chocolate covered cherries. — 8 years ago
Named after two classic soil types of Napa Valley, Forward Gravelly Loam and Kidd Loam, this is a Petite Sirah leading blend. And I believe 2015 is the 4th and last vintage made by Merryvale.
Blackcurrant, fig, roasted coffee bean, and light fresh herbs on the nose. Some red berry fruits still lingers around on the smooth palate. Resolved tannins. In its prime. — 2 years ago
You're drinking Maryvale what else do you want it's awesome! — 5 years ago
Deep ruby, almost purple, hue. Ripe purple fruit, such as blackberries, black currant, fig jam, and plum sauce, and tobacco, cocoa, bell pepper, sage, smoked meat, cedar, and delicate baking spices. Velveteen on the palate with soft tannins and a long finish. Vintage 2016. 14.5% ABV. #merryvale #merryvalevineyards #coombsvillenapa #merlot #merlotday #merlot #napavalley #napavalleywine #napawine — 6 years ago

The ‘15 was great. The ‘16 is even better!
From magnum. The nose is dark and savory, with bay leafs and crushed rocks commingling with beautifully ripen fruits. Powerful and dense on the palate. The tannins are delicious, soft yet mouth coating. Probably needs another 8-10 to peak.
Fruits are from the estate Profile vineyard and Trumbull and Stagecoach vineyards. Predominantly Cab with Merlot and Petit Verdot. — 2 years ago
Fun to compare this famed Chilean cab, also from 13’ in magnum, to the Merryvale cabs.
A bit more savory and herbal, with hint of green bell pepper that’s signature of Chilean cab. Ripe dark fruits intertwined with tart fresh cherry fruits made for a supple yet vibrant palate. Quite elegant.
I was not very impressed with couple of the older vintages I tasted. But this is great! — 4 years ago
A very solid Carneros Chard. Complex, well balanced, drinkable. — 4 years ago
A blend of 81% Cab Sauv, 11% Petite Sirah & 8% Merlot, deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits and herb spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry with notes of licorice and vanilla. Rustic tight tannins, lively acidity, medium+ finish ending with vanilla and cedar notes. — 6 years ago
Delish perfumey, aged incredibly well — 7 years ago
Solid aromas of dark, jammy fruits with strong hint of leathery oak. It is one of those wines that you enjoy sniffing over and over without taking a sip. The first sip is a mouthful of sweet ripeness. This wine can stand on its own, enjoyable without food — 7 years ago
Surprisingly smooth — 8 years ago

2021 vintage. Medium/medium-heavy body. Color dark as a moonless night. Didn't delve into the specifics but tastes like mountain/hillside fruit. Lean and mean in spades with profiles in courage...er...tannins. Excellent concentration throughout. Definitely NOT for the casual (Napa) red drinker/initiate. 6.5.26. — 20 days ago
