This is a sensational bottle of old-vine Friulano, perfectly mature, combining freshness and nervosity (candied lime, pear, melon), dense exotic notes (tropical flowers, pine-apple, maracuja) and a gorgeously funky minerality (flint, wool, wet rocks).
Even better than the Friulanos from Miani that I tasted.

There is a level of density and class to the Rias Biaxas of Nanclares which seems to elevate the wines above the rest of the appellation. Quintessential but out of the ordinary. Reminds me of the ways that Dagueneau or Miani transcends. This 2013 has pedigree and such a youthful fervor, no hurry here. — 7 years ago

22/6/8-10 with scallop crudo, fresh homemade tagliolini al Portonat, frico, etc. side by side with the Gnemiz Sol, this was deeper, more spherical, and more complex. A pretty remarkable range of aromas - from classic Sauvignon scents to richer peach and nectarine, honey, mint, vanilla, cool stone, etc. The palate was very deep and richly satisfying while still being sprightly and drinkable, with tons of minerality that was somehow round rather than salty. This was one of the best young Sauvignon Blancs I’ve had, and I’d love to see it with some age. — 4 years ago

2022/9/9-10. Very young indeed - right now, it’s got a nose reminiscent of a verbal, pungent Sauvignon, but with some creamy depth and floral elegance hiding behind. Plenty of tangy fruit and savory mineral on the palate. Delicious with raw ham and all manner of vegetable dishes, but I’d love to try it in a few years. — 4 years ago
