Azienda Agricola Ronchi

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2014

Needed a good amount of time to open. Liked this wine - good classic Nebbiolo fruit, nice weight, liked that not a ton of earth and oak but are present and introduce good complexity - but also had strong acidity/bite and above average dryness.

Had at favorite Seattle Italian spot on hill.

Joh. Jos. Prüm

Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese Riesling 2017

Delectable Wine
9.3

White peach and mango are wreathed in heliotrope and honeysuckle, accompanied by a hazy hint of yeastiness and fermentative “stink” familiar from youthful wines at this address. The midpalate impression frees itself entirely from any haziness, delivering floral profusion and a luscious abundance of fruit utterly transparent to stony, smoky and mouthwateringly marine nuances. “It seems to be a particularly good year for Zeltinger,” observed Katharina Prüm, noting that this particular wine made significant qualitative strides in its first nine months. I can’t wait to witness what lies in store that many years or more down the pike! (David Schildknecht, Vinous, January 2020) — 6 years ago

Shibumi Knoll

Buena Tierra Vineyard Chardonnay 2009

This was better than when I had it in Seattle a few years ago. Maybe bottle shock is real? I do think it approaching end of life. Trying to move through these older whites. — 8 years ago

Domaine de la Pépière

Clisson Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Melon de Bourgogne 2019

Nice to revisit Pépière - Dressner lost distribution in Seattle for a minute and they’ve been missed. Gastronomic, lovely pairing with salmon and roasted beets. Good concentration, mineral, citrus, saline, smoke. Touch of heat in this vintage. — 3 years ago

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

Happy 4th! Signed by the man himself, Ben Smith, during a wonderful visit to the winery in Seattle some years ago. The wine has years to develop but ready to drink—gorgeous cherry, vanilla, cedar, figs, menthol and unsweetened cocoa — 7 years ago

K Vintners

The Deal Sundance Vineyard Syrah 2015

First K wine. Might have to hit up the tasting room while I’m up here in Seattle. Nice wine. The color of the glass is less opaque than the syrahs ive been drinking from california. I personally didn’t get a ton of meat on this wine. I got beautiful raspberry and blue fruits on the palate. The style reminds me of the richer biale zins: beautiful fresh pure fruit but not overdone in alcohol or sweetness. 91-92 — 7 years ago
