Nice blend of Grenache & Sarah. More up front with tones plum and dark raspberry — 2 years ago
Had a couple of these “Blue Boys” in my cellar. Mollydooker (Aussie for left-hander) Wines was established in 2005 by Sarah and Sparky Marquis. Dark Ruby with big dark berry fruit nose adding sweet spice and cedar. On the palate this wine has complex flavors of blackberry and blueberry with cacao, oak and vanilla. Fine dusty tight tannins, peasant mouthfeel, full-bodied, long ending with a nice spicy finish. Aging well, good now, has room to run. — 5 years ago
This sauv blanc is awesome. Grapefruit, light effervescence and rounded finish. Must stock up! — 6 months ago
At the Yarra Yering dinner last Thursday night with winemaker, Sarah Crowe. YY was one of the first vineyards in Australia to make an excellent Pinot Noir. I remember buying a dozen of the 1986 - long since gone of course. Made by the late Dr Bailey Carrodus. A mixed planting of 4 clones in 1969. Red fruited with a touch of violets. 30% in new French barrels with the balance in used oak. The over riding lasting impression is its silky texture. — 2 years ago
Very nice and it kept getting better as the evening went on. — 3 years ago
The final wine at the Yarra Yering dinner in Brisbane last Thursday night 3rd October 2024 with winemaker Sarah Crowe. Fitting that Dry Red No. 1 should be the final wine - arguably the Jewel in the Crown. Initial aromatic impressions are gorgeous. This is the 50th vintage of Dry Red No. 1. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Brief notes - blackberry, aniseed and bay leaf. A medium bodied Cabernet with M+ intensity and finishing with fine boned tannin structure. Power with poise, concentration with finesse. Will live for 20 years plus. I have been buying on an irregular basis for many years. The 1990 was a highlight. I asked Sarah, who was Chairman of the Royal Sydney Wine Show this year to compare 3 of the main Cabernet producing areas in Australia - Yarra Valley leafy fragrance, Coonawarra Mint, and Margaret River herbaceousness. "Odedi"
Deep purple/ inky in color with a reddish rim.
Beautiful nose of red and black fruits with cedar, vanilla, licorice, Indian spices, tobacco leaf and chocolates.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and very fruity on the palate with red cherries, currants, black plums, cedar, tobacco leaf, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, herbs and peppercorn.
Long tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Elegant, fruit forward and exciting. Nicely balanced and complex.
Still very young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already drinking gorgeously.
Already drinking beautifully, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 7 years and see how it evolves.
A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.
A tiny production of only 640 bottles.
14.9% alcohol by volume.
93 points.
