McKahn Family Cellars

Shenandoah Valley Grenache 2019

McKahn Family Cellars - 2019 Grenache - WOW! I love Grenache and this is definitely my new favorite!!! this is just about the perfect wine. The nose is blueberry pie fresh out of the oven. The initial palate is loaded with big ripe black and purple fruit and berries. This is so good and complex. Blackberry, boysenberry, plumb, ripe sweet juicy grapes fresh off the vine, and a hint of raspberry. Then comes the earthy tones of graphite and oak. There is a hint of chocolate and spice in the background. The finish is dry and absolutely no sourness anywhere. This is a true gem!!!!!
Fantastic job McKahn family!

Esola Vineyards Zinfandel Petite Sirah 1981

Popped and poured; enjoyed out of red Solo cups over the course of a few hours. The 1981 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears and significant sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes desiccated, as well as some ripe black and red fruits: mixed brambles, black cherry, tobacco, leather, dried flowers, earth and spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. It’s always fun to open old bottles of classically made Zinfandel and this turned out to be a great bottle of the 1981 Esola Vineyard. If you have a bottle, and you’re reading this, find some friends and drink now. — 8 months ago

Cooper Vineyards

Shenandoah Valley Zinfandel 2016

Hmm Cooper. That place is usually da bomb. Lovely rusty red. Fruit is restrained, but nice. Flavors are very rich and smooth. A smooth easy Zin. Plenty of campfire to match the jammy fruits. — 6 years ago

I was surprised how much life this has. Tasted like the Chinese haw flake candy which is supposedly made from hawthorn fruit. Well balanced and still had enough acidity. — a year ago

Not your typical sweet white wine. A creamy apricot with a sweet finish. Great to drink very cold and with spicy food. If you're a beginner wine drinker, start here! Great proce and layers of tropical Starburst flavors! — 4 years ago

McKahn Family Cellars

Rose of Grenache 2019

Light to medium bodied Rosé all day. But this wine can definitely hold its own and did very well with a home cooked meal of fried chicken tenders. This wine actually needed a little bit of time as it was muted immediately upon cork pop and definitely benefited from warming up to near room temp. Light pink in the glass. Strawberry and stone ground raspberry. Finished with a little bit of herbal quality. A really nice wine for a 105 degree summer day, as I'm sure we will have many of them this year. I think this wine is as close to 93 as you can get, and the price for this wine made by a rather unappreciated winemaker makes this an insane QPR. — 6 years ago
