Vipava Zelen Lanthieri is a 100% Zelen, a medium-bodied with some camomile blossom and dry white stony fruits, a lively acidity and a sublet touch of oak (reminds me a nice Macon’s chard), great harmony between acidity and fruitiness. Ancient Pinella varietal-Veneto origin but now 97% is grown in Slovenia. Floral notes, crisp acidity. Label says 14% abv but seemed much lower than that. Nice find at a local wine shop in Pacifica. — 4 years ago

Blend of Grenache, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Light ruby/garnet color with a slight brick rim. Aromas of minerals, dried blueberries, purple flowers and oak. Blue/blackberry and black currant fruit on the palate along with notes of dark chocolate, tar and black licorice. Pleasant mineral note on the medium length finish. Though its power has faded over time, this unfiltered wine shows nice balance and a smooth texture. A bit past its prime but still drinkable and interesting.
