Bright fruit, good balance, some residual sugar, but enjoyable — a month ago

Brandborg

Ferris Wheel Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Purple-red, thin pigment extraction. Aromas of leather, sweet floral and black currant. Flavors of vanilla, honey and oodles of raspberry. An opulent fruit-forward Pinot, given its age. Light acidity, good body, well balanced — 3 years ago

Šibenik Plavac Mali 2015

Incredible, fragrant nose - sandalwood and bursting with black currant, maybe some black tea in there, too. Dry mouthfeel, like wool socks that were kept in a wooden drawer all season and then somehow got left out in the rain. — 5 years ago

Clos Saint Jean

Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2022

Always a good one. Not sure I could distinguish from the ‘19 I had several weeks back - same voluptuous fruit, slightly wooden finish - could definitely use a few more years - this young it’s a little too fruit forward/unsubtle — 4 months ago

Red fruits(raspberries, plum, slight herbal on the nose, chocolate note at the end, little dill, medium + acid, good mouthfeel, soft tannin, 44$ syrah, 36% mouvedre, 20% petite syrah 14.4%. I likey👍 — 4 years ago

Château Faizeau

Sélection Vieilles Vignes Montagne St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Good fruit but funky nose and too acidic, despite the age. Paired with ribeye and the meat seemed to elevate the acidity - not pleasant. After two hours, still wooden and musty. Though fruit persisted nicely — 5 years ago

Straight up my wheel house for Old World Syrah.

It is called Cote-Rotie or translation roasted slope for a reason.

The nose has beautifully, lightly floral fruits that are; blackberries, dark cherries, plum, black raspberries, poached strawberries and hues of blueberries. Some black pepper, steeped black tea, hues of roasted chestnuts, sandalwood, some dry tobacco, used leather, red cola, dark, rich earth, dark, red, blue withering florals framed in amazing violets.

The body is smooth as silk. The fruits are ripe & juicy; blackberries, dark cherries, plums for days, black raspberries, poached strawberries and hues of blueberries. Some black pepper, shades of lightly, grilled meats, steeped black tea, hues of roasted chestnuts, sandalwood, some dry tobacco, crushed rock powder, river stone, dry top soil, used leather, red cola, dark, rich earth, dark, red, blue withering florals framed in a. amazing field of violets. Rainfall acidity, soft structure & tension, well balanced and an elegant, beautiful, lush finish. Damn beautiful wine.

Sofia & I walked the La Landonne vineyard with Pierre and tasted in the cellar w/ Rene & Pierre.

Excellent with both Tri-tip’s…rubbed & marinated.

Herbal. I think for more on the Rosemary side of the herb wheel. Just the slightest wisp of black licorice. Red berries. — 5 years ago

Martinet Bru Priorat Garnatxa Syrah 2016

Still a baby, but already solid, huge, grippy, powerful and assertive Priorat.
Garnacha/Syrah, fermented in cement tanks with wild yeasts with daily oxygenation. Macerated 10-15 days. Aged in 4000 L wooden vats, 300 L barrels, clay jars & demijohns for 18 months.

Dark inky garnet, scarlet rim.
Intense, invigorating & refined nose of black earth, tar, smoke, pome jam, raspberry pie, charred pine cone, crushed pepper, peppermint, cherry seed, bone fire, caramel, mulberry jam, tobacco, box of matches, mushrooms, pu er tea, licorice, ink, rosemary, volcanic minerals.
Impressive and massive palate. Very full body (14.5%), vivid acidity, grained tannins. Chokeberry, hibiscus, red currant skins, basil, lilac broth, black gooseberry, unripe saskatoon, earth, cigar, roasted cacao beans, lavender, savory, espresso flavors.
Saturated lasting finish of cedar, saskatoon, chokeberry, coffee and licorice.
Paired rib-eye steak finely.
