Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1999

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 1999 Chianti Classico pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears and some light sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with lovely notes of ripe and some dried red fruits: Bing cherry, raspberry, red flowers, Pu-erh tea, porchini, dried green herbs, a whiff of varnish (letting you know it’s Italian), old leather and wood and gravelly, iron rich earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This 27 year old CC is sensational and further proof that Sangiovese rewards the patient. Drink now through 2039. — 2 months ago

Domaine Michelas-St. Jemms

Signature Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2020

A charming, juicy and greedy Crozes. Red fruits, violet, dry, semi-light body, marked minerality markers. No smoked taste or charcoal; blindly I could have believed a Cabernet-Franc de Loire a little natural. Easy to drink.

Colgin Cellars

IX Estate Napa Valley Syrah 2012

— 6 years ago

— 6 years ago

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2013

First impression was that it was quite different from the first wine. Cool and beautiful nose of dark cherries and once again blueberries. Pretty and cool nose led me to think 2012/2013 and ultimately settled for the latter. Different kind of tea like quality than the 2011, more like pu erh tea. The aromatic intensity, weight and finish on the mouth is one up from the 2011. Lovely. — 9 years ago

Fattoria Selvapiana

Vigneto Bucerchiale Riserva Chianti Rùfina Sangiovese 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2020 “Bucerchiale” pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red fruits: funky cherry, mushroom, horse blanket, pu-erh tea, earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This bottle benefitted from time in the glass and would recommend a 30min decant ahead of service. Drink now through 2030. — a year ago

Martinet Bru Priorat Garnatxa Syrah 2016

Still a baby, but already solid, huge, grippy, powerful and assertive Priorat.
Garnacha/Syrah, fermented in cement tanks with wild yeasts with daily oxygenation. Macerated 10-15 days. Aged in 4000 L wooden vats, 300 L barrels, clay jars & demijohns for 18 months.

Dark inky garnet, scarlet rim.
Intense, invigorating & refined nose of black earth, tar, smoke, pome jam, raspberry pie, charred pine cone, crushed pepper, peppermint, cherry seed, bone fire, caramel, mulberry jam, tobacco, box of matches, mushrooms, pu er tea, licorice, ink, rosemary, volcanic minerals.
Impressive and massive palate. Very full body (14.5%), vivid acidity, grained tannins. Chokeberry, hibiscus, red currant skins, basil, lilac broth, black gooseberry, unripe saskatoon, earth, cigar, roasted cacao beans, lavender, savory, espresso flavors.
Saturated lasting finish of cedar, saskatoon, chokeberry, coffee and licorice.
Paired rib-eye steak finely.

Mes Cinq Terroirs Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir

So I bought this wine and had it now twice. 18h after opening. Deep dark cherry tons of tannins plenty of minerals. Oak bark. This wine will go for a very long time. Despite its price 80$ worth buying. Although I would pu this down for at least 4 years. — 8 years ago

Domaine Ramonet

Morgeot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2016

Muted nose at first, took time to open up and it did so very nicely on red fruits, soft spices and a touch of an earthy feel. The palate follows the same trend, fairly closed and then started to blossom with that gorgeous and energetic red fruit, nice acidity, almost mineral, with tannins that have a nice texture on the palate, the delicious finish is of medium length. A very nice and typical red Chassagne that could have benefited of a little more time in the cellar.

Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1990

Un Bourgogne dune finesse incroyable. 1990. — 6 years ago

Brouwerij Westvleteren (Sint-Sixtusabdij van Westvleteren)

Trappist Westvleteren 12° Abbey Quadrupel

— 9 years ago
