Alain Jaume & Fils
Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, Rhône, FranceThis is infanticide I know to be drinking 2010 from magnum but it sure was great! This wine is all I could ask of young CdP. Inky dark purple with bright meniscus, nose of baked blackberries, cassis, blackberry tea, touches of earth, smoke, tar and a big whiff of black pepper. Mouth coating on the palate, weighty, super fine tannins with pleasant grip, gobs and gobs of dark fruit and like in all the great vintages, sufficient acid. I can barely remember a finer CdP. Perhaps the 1998.

Good dark berries with kirsch and spice. Running a tad hot for my liking and the garrigue on the finish doesn't tame this.

Did rhone varietals all weekend (American and French styles) and this was the best. Great nose. Flavored come out as you masticate.
