Château Clerc Milon
Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
Pauillac, Médoc, Bordeaux, France

#AgedWineTuesday
Pretty color of ruby with a wide reddish rim.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel.
Showing black currants, cooked cherries, tobacco leaf, herbs, vegetables, light wood, licorice, coffee, light cola, vegetables and black pepper.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This beautiful 24-year-old Bordeaux from the great 2000 vintage seems still young, although decanted for 4 hours.
Elegant and powerful. Rich, yet subdued. I loved the nose, that showed lots of wild flowers.
Wine Spectator 91 points. Robert Parker 92 points.
This Fifth growth is nicely balanced with nice complexity at this point. Still needs a few more years in the bottle to mature properly.
I've had many vintages of this wine, and so far the 2009 was my favorite.
Good by itself and better with food. Paired nicely with dried meats and cheeses.
12.5% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$150.

Showing all the aspects of a grand Bordeaux vintage.
It’s velvet, candied floral, ruby; creamed raspberries, blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, dry stone, limestone & sandstone, black rich earth, tobacco, used leather, tomato with leaf, elegance defined, well knitted & balanced, dark spice, dry top soil, underbrush, candied florals of; fresh, withering, dark, red, purple and touch of blue flowers. Round acidity for days with a long, ripe, velvet finish persistent that falls into a dry minerality on the long set.
Photos of; us spending time learning in the vineyard with our friend & Clerc Milon Winemaker-Jean, Sofia picking the 2012 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Merlot, same day dinner at Chateau Mouton Rothschild sitting with their CEO who was retiring & subsequently ended up running Montrose. Bottom pic is Chateau Clerc Milon. We enjoyed 75 Mouton out of 6L with dinner. The vintage Andy Warhol designed the label. Each artist is given two cases of Mouton as payment if their artwork is selected for their bottle.
Our hands are all over the 2012 Chateau Mouton Rothschild & Clerc Milon wines. So, you probably don’t want to buy those or sell them on an auction site if you own. 😜
Allen Brothers 8oz filet fodder.

Classic nose of graphite and cigar box to a medium weight and nicely balanced trip over the palate. Light cherry and vanilla notes but trending to the austere. Drink up.

Jul 17th, 2020Still very drinkable, opens a bit musty but decanted soon looses that to bright cherry and fruit with a long lingering mid-pallet and leather, tobacco notes on the finish. Still good - no matter what the drinkability charts may show!!

Jun 19th, 2022On its way out, but very drinkable and opened up nicely decanted. Fruit on the front, more leather and tobacco notes on the back pallet. Still a great drop and we have nearly a case left, so gotta get to drinking!!

May 27th, 2022Beautiful deep ruby color... spice, cedar and a bit of eucalyptus on the nose. Dark fruit, sweet tannin, spice & a bit of old leather on the palate. A marvelous, big but soft Bordeaux that I suspect will drink well for another 5-6 years.

Nov 15th, 2019Dense-ish purple with multicolor rim tinged brown from age. Needed 45 minutes to open but didn’t disappoint and was easily the headline of the night. Deep dark black cherry was present but secondary to smokey earthy goodness. A flourish of tannins integrated beautifully and lingered. A rich, dense texture that will stay with me. But still soft and so so drinkable. Med plus body and med acidity. What a great treat for me and my wife (and in-laws). A solid “A” experience for my first (somewhat aged) Bordeaux.
