Post dinner party notes. This was really good but paled side by side with the 2015 Mondavi Oakville, which surprised me. Reserved but deep. Soft and mouthcoating.

Drank 1/18/19 at the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux event in Miami. All wines from the 2016 Vintage.

Tasting pour, no formal notes taken. Most of these wines are very tight, and will require 5-15 years to really come together. Many will likely improve a few points with time.

Beautiful, well structured dark fruit. Complex, but more open than several left bank wines at this stage, as is usual for Pessac-Leognan.

Excellent craftsmanship all the way around. Excellent fruit, beautiful soft tannins, excellent acidity. Drink now but cellar and don’t miss the beauty this 16 will bring. Buy!

Big and somewhat jammy, lots of tannins still present, better after 3 hours decanted. Try again in a couple of years

A full body with a ruby dark color. Drinking nicely, tanins are already soften, strong nose and an overwhelming palate with dark plums and matured dried fruits.

The surprisingly approachable 2016 is classy, full bodied and silky with inviting new oak aromatics. You get plenty of currants, mocha, orange peel, clay, black tea and toasty notes. All new oak on the 2016 vintage. The chateau has apparently decreased the level of new oak since. I don’t find it too oaky at all. Would be interesting to compare it with recent vintages. With a generous decant this wine is ready to drink already.
