Domaine Gallet
Côte Rôtie Syrah
Côte-Rôtie, Northern Rhône, Rhône, France

Opened about three hours prior to service. The 2020 pours a deep purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of funky brambles, purple flowers, black pepper, bacon fat, dried green herbs, exotic spices, and rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose with the addition of olive brine. The finish is long, ferrous and savory. Really great stuff. Drink now through 2040+. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass

Big smokey nose with blackberry coulis, olives, dark violets, game, leather and granite. So elegant and pretty. Just opened so aromas will continue to manifest deeper and deeper. Palate is ripe and rich but also so silky and delicate with a slippery texture and barely sweet blackberry and red berry fruits. Perfectly balanced and so pure and sapid. Nose gets some tree bark and wonderful citrus notes as it airs. Great freshness and acidity and really terrific mineral spine. Finished like licking granite. Love it. We will see how this develops with air. After 5 hours of air this is teeming with energy and the freshness overfloweth. Nose is now blackberry coulis and stunning granite. Elegant and so meaty. Classic southern sector Cote Rotie. 9.4 to 9.5.

Popped and poured, enjoyed over 3 days. Best on Day 3. The wine pours a deep purple color with a nearly opaque core; medium+ viscosity, and notable staining of the tears. On the nose, remarkable aromas of black, red and blue fruits, lavender pastilles, black pepper, bacon fat (this shows more with extended air), olive tapenade, and rocky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. The finish is long with a lovely streak of minerals that just carries. This is a lovely Côte-Rôtie that showed its quality at the first pour but really came into its own with extended air. You can drink now with patience and an extended decant otherwise these will likely be singing after 2030 and drink well through 2040.
