Solengo: Popped and poured into red Solo cups; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2001 pours a garnet/purple with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of cassis, black berries, black cherry, dried purple flowers, capsicum, pencil shavings, some fine, cool and warm spices and dry, gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Squarely in the zone and while this a traditional Bordeaux-style blend, it somehow has a touch of Italian vibes. Drink now through 2036. — 7 hours ago

2020 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 15 mins and 2 hours. Medium/medium-heavy body (as usual) first sampling. Meaty (but not beefy) with dark plum as backup/the club bouncer. Slightly chunky but eminently drinkable. Ff two hours and the body thinned out slightly with the club bouncer’s shift over. Dark plum gonzo and cola + Luxardo cherry now driving the party bus. Not quite as structured as the massive 2019 or as precious as the 2018. This is in a great spot now, if you must, and should be an absolute delight in 5-10 years. 3.6.25. — 7 months ago

Decided to break open this Brunello tonight, after having a 2015 Argiano last night. This one is super rich with dark cherry, chocolate, and spice aromas. On the bud, the cherry notes continue to come out with cedar/oak notes and subtle spice notes. It velvety smooth with mild tannins and a nice long finish. Great with our steak and kale salad. Looking forward to tasting it with our chocolates later. This one is by far the winner of the two wines. I still have 6 more bottles in the cellar and can’t wait to see how it continues to evolve. — 3 years ago
