Ca' del Bosco

Cuvée Prestige Franciacorta Brut Chardonnay Blend

Somm David T
9.0

This is a remembrance of Sofia & my trip to Franciacorta & visit to Ca’ del Bosco in 2015.

If Italy has a kind of equivalent to Champagne, it would be Franciacorta. This is not Prosecco. It is made in the traditional method.

It is a beautiful part of Italy with both Lake Garda’s, one smaller (closer) & one much bigger and is a summer haven.

Excuse the fussy pics. I bought a new iPhone 7 just before we left & it had a defective camera.

The nose shows fruit blossoms, pineapple, green, apple, golden apple, white peach, tropical melons, vanilla, frothy cream, some caramel, soft volcanics, chalk & spring flowers setting in greens.

The palate has nice, soft, mousse. Ripe fruits; fruit blossoms, pineapple, green, apple, golden apple, lemon, lime, white peach, tropical melons & mango. Vanilla, frothy cream, some caramel, soft volcanics, sea spray, saline, chalk & spring flowers setting in greens, beautiful, acidity, well balanced, nicely structured & toned with an elegant finish that last a full minute and lands on volcanics.

Wow, has this thing aged well. This 2018 is drinking fantastically in 2022. Great acid, so this thing can keep on going. But we popped the cork and let it unwind over several hours - and we were rewarded. The white peach continued gaining intensity, the mild tannins mellowed further, and the wine really started showing its many layers. Really lovely. — 4 years ago

California Petit Verdot

This wine had beautiful notes of black cherry, plum, and blackberry. I couldn’t get over the color of it as well. Such a beautiful shade of red!

This is the perfect medium-bodied red for a light-dinner date night.

I personally paired this wine with chicken adobo and rice which was an amazing pairing. This would also go well with herb roasted mushrooms.

Cape Point Vineyards

Cape Town Chardonnay 2017

@Delectable this is the Cape Town Chardonnay. Pleas add.

The nose reveals; buttered popcorn, butter, green apple, green melon, burnt caramel, pineapple, white peach, lemon, lime, honeysuckle, fresh greens, warm toast, saline, pronounced minerals, limestone, chalk with yellow and white flowers.

The body is full, thick and waxy. White spice, buttered popcorn, butter, green apple, green melon, burnt caramel, pineapple, white peach, lemon, lime, honeysuckle, fresh greens, warm toast, saline, pronounced minerals, limestone, chalk with yellow and white flowers. The acidity round and lively. The finish is rich, lush and gets very mineral driven on the long set.

Photos of; the beautiful view from their restaurant terrace, the manmade pond on the property for aesthetics as well as irrigation, inside lounge area for tasting and a closer camera shot of their ocean view with gorgeous white sand beach.

Domaine Francois Lamarche

La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole Pinot Noir 2012

Another wine from the Burgundy dinner in Sydney 6 weeks ago. I have been figuring out how to get photos from my camera roll to Delectable. It is not always straightforward. Notes to come later. We had 2 vintages of La Grande Rue. This is the 2012. I found my notes. Not a big fruit influence from this cooler year. Initially a fair bit of oak and a fair bit of whole bunch. Medium weight at best. Meadows tells us that the wines ageing potential most closely mirrors that of Romanee Saint Vivant. After La Romanee, La Grande Rue is the smallest of the Vosne Grand Crus. — 9 months ago

@S.S. Mandani really nailed this note: didn't hesitate grabbing an obscure southern French varietal from Redwood country in northern CA. there was a distinct genuineness to this wine, a juicy savory engaging mouthfeel, very cerebral & well made (11%!) - you can tell they just got out of the way and let the grapes shine... — a year ago

Blaü-Ökör Austro-Hungarian 2020

“Kek Bika” on my back label rather than the “Blaü-Ökör” here and on Vinous Obscura’s website, this mystery red nevertheless matches the descriptions in every other respect. It’s strong evidence supporting a thesis I have yet to sell on the wine makers in my family: the tyranny of the French clones is overrated; nature’s mutations are an abundance to be harvested instead of flaws to be weeded out; and the wine market is due for the same sort of revolution that hit eating apples a decade or so ago. This wine is light, acidic, and yet fresh and fruit forward, bringing to mind raspberries, sour cherries, English hedgerow fruits (like gooseberries or elderberries or something that I, being only an occasional visitor, can’t put my finger on) but without being cloying. It finishes with a peppery kick that rivals the best Syrahs. I still have a long way to go to sell my grand thesis, but my skeptical Francophile wife is at least sold on this particular wine. — 4 years ago
